Head Cook — Camp Opemikon

JOB SUMMARY

The Head Cook is responsible for the daily operation of the camp’s kitchen and dining hall. Makes certain the menu is nutritious and appropriate for campers and staff taking part in outdoor activities and meals are served on time. Maintains a proper food inventory and places food orders on time. Instruct, trains, and leads the kitchen staff as well as properly delegating tasks when needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage all aspects of food service for the camp
  • Supervise and coordinate the kitchen staff, providing training and coaching
  • Prepare meal plans for the upcoming week
  • Ensure cleanliness of food preparation and delivery areas
  • Follow health department regulations pertaining to safe food practice
  • Responsible for rotating stock when new orders are checked in
  • Places food orders in accordance with budget and in a timely manner
  • Check in all food/supply orders
  • Prepares all meals on time as scheduled or assigned by the summer camp director
  • Knowledge of food allergies and food-related diseases, and the ingredients that may cause the allergy/disease

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum two years of successful experience as head cook
  • Experience cooking and serving large groups
  • Ability managing kitchen staff
  • Ability to modify meals for special dietary needs
