Camp Opemikon — Voyageur Council – Scouts Canada
Reports to: Resource Coordinator
- Two weekends of pre-camp training (May 11th, June 1st)
- Seven weeks of full-time program & delivery (June 24–August 10)
The Support Services are responsible for the implementation of the maintenance, equipment, rocks & ropes and waterfront for the Camp for campers, encouraging adventure, enjoyment and the development of new skills and interests. Maintenance is responsible for developing a weekly schedule for maintain cleanliness of camp sites and minor repairs with the guidance and direction of the Camp Ranger & Camp Director; Equipment is responsible for maintaining all camp equipment required for programs, ensuring equipment is prepared for program out-trips in a timely manner; Rocks & Ropes is responsible for maintaining the ropes courses and all equipment required to run the activity for each program; Waterfront is responsible for developing a weekly aquatics schedule, providing supervision and guidance at the waterfront at all times, overseeing boating sessions and providing guidance to counsellors during boating sessions, ensuring boats are maintained and kept in a safe working manner. These positions require passion for working with youth and an interest in supporting the Senior Staff in incorporating more of the Canadian Path principles into the Summer Camp Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and conduct program activities with camper groups as required.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct proper maintenance and cleanliness of camp and program sites.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct proper maintenance and inventory of camp equipment.
- Cooperate with other staff and assist in the organization and supervision of camp activities and special events such as Camp-Wide activity.
- Weekly submission of any supply request forms to the Resource Coordinator.
- Responsible for the safety and care of each camper assigned to his/her area at all times.
- Write up and follow up on all Incident Reports required.
- Assist in regular caretaking duties to maintain cleanliness of camp facilities.
- Other duties as required.
- Minimum 16 years of age; 18 years of age preferred.
- Capable of planning for children (aged 5-16 years) in a recreational setting.
- Familiarity with basic camping skills, basic equipment repairs, basic maintenance of buildings and grounds, operation of lawn equipment as required and basic tool knowledge.
- Ability to work with a variety of workstyles among young adults.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C) certificate. Waterfront must have current NLS certification and Boaters Exam certification. Rocks & Ropes must have current Ropes Certification provided by camp prior to starting work.

- Strong communication skills with an interest in developing personal leadership abilities.

- Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Willingness to complete all necessary training, including additional Pre-Camp Training if deemed necessary.
- Willingness to work non-traditional hours.
- In good physical health.
