National In-Person Support Advisor

Scouts Canada and the Volunteer Services Team is looking to recruit a National In-Person Support Advisor. This individual will work with the Deputy National Commissioner – Volunteer Services, National Office Staff, and the National Service Team to promote a culture of support within Scouts Canada.
 
The National In-Person Support Advisor will be responsible for helping to achieve the objectives of the Volunteer Support Strategy which are related to in-person support. The ideal candidate for this role would have background as a Support Scouter. They must understand the benefits of person to person interaction as it related to program solving, knowledge transfer, volunteer support, and program quality.

Council Commissioner – Battlefields Council

Your upbeat, positive attitude will encourage a climate favourable for growth of Canada’s best youth movement. With a keen eye for great leaders you will participate in the Public Appointment Process to selectively recruit, orient and appoint Area Commissioners and Council Service Team.
 
Scouts Canada – Battlefields Council is seeking nominations for the position of Council Commissioner. This is a volunteer position that requires 50 to 60 hours per month. (i.e.: working from home, travel in the field, and various management meetings).
 
Battlefields Council is comprised of an energetic and diverse membership from both urban and rural communities that include Brantford, Cambridge, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Port Colborne and Simcoe and all points between. It boasts a growing membership of 3,500 youth and 1000 adult volunteers.
 
The Council Commissioner works closely with a team of volunteers and staff in the planning and managing of the affairs of the Council. Your role includes ensuring the activities of the Council are consistent with Scouts Canada’s strategic directions, and providing the necessary service and support is in place so that Areas can supervise the delivery of the Scouting programs. The Council Commissioner is recognized as the principle point of contact for the Council regarding program management activities membership development, and ensuring a safe environment for youth to learn and develop.
 
As a member of the Chief Commissioner’s team, you’ll provide quarterly reports on the program status of the Council. You’ll ensure an effective flow of accurate and timely information regarding all Scouting matters, including procedure and policy changes.

It is beneficial that the Council Commissioner has a flexible time schedule and the support of their family. Chairperson - ADVenture 2014

The Chair of the Planning Team is responsible for all planning phases of a given event.
 

Terms of Reference 

The role of the Chair is to provide leadership in the planning and operation of the event.  The activities usual to the position are:
 
  • Support the development of the organizational structure for the event.
  • Develop and implement the strategy by which the event will be planned, carried out and evaluated.
  • Chair all meetings of the Planning Team.
  • Establish effective communication links with appropriate groups, inside and outside Scouts Canada, that bear directly on the event.
  • Act as a principal contact with the senior members of the Council hosting the event.
  • Establish and ensure the on-going process of consultation with the Chief Commissioner.
  • Advise appropriate body of all major decisions/activities of the Planning Committee and status of the event.
  • Consult with, and support the relevant activities of the Manager.
  • Prepare a detailed report including recommendations of the Planning Committee.

Program Manager - ADVenture 2014

Program is responsible for all areas of program design and implementation (youth and adult).
 

Terms of Reference 

Program's principal function is to develop and execute youth programs for the event. Other activities may include Indaba and Youth Leadership Teams program.
 

Criteria for Program Development

  • warrants back home application
  • promotes new initiatives
  • promotes fun 
  • creates challenge
  • demonstrates appreciation of Canadian heritage
  • creates knowledge/appreciation of other sections (if only through visibility) 
 

Planning Steps 

  • develop a program concept(s) 
  • expand the concept to an initial design
  • seek approval from Planning Team
  • determine cost and complete design within budget
  • prepare detailed implementation plans

Council Commissioner - Greater Toronto Council

Accountable To: 
Chief Commissioner/Chair of the Board for Scouts Canada
 
Term: 
Appointed annually by the Chief Commissioner in consultation with the council concerned. The Council Commissioner shall not hold this position for more than three (3) consecutive terms, each term being for one year as per Bylaws, Policies and Procedures. 
 
Time required: 
30-40 hours per month (on average). 
 
Scope of Position: 
Work closely with the Council Executive Director and the Council Youth Commissioner in planning and managing the affairs of the Council. The Commissioner is recognized as the principal point of contact for the Council regarding program management, membership development and ensuring a safe environment for youth to learn and develop. Travel throughout the Council to attend meetings and events will be required.

14th World Scout MOOT Canada 2013

To be held between August 8 and 18, 2013, the MOOT will bring together 5000 Rovers and Offers of Service from over 100 countries. The MOOT will be held at Camp Awacamenj Mino, in Low, Québec and in the urban centres of Montréal, Québec, Toronto and Ottawa-Gatineau. 
 
The Moot 2013 organization will need the expertise and help of hundreds of volunteers.  We are currently looking for volunteers to support the directors of the Planning Team of the (organizing committee). There are many positions, some of which can be done from anywhere in Canada or the world.
 
Please check the MOOT web site at http://www.mootcanada2013.ca/en/volunteers/ for the current positions. This is the only place where positions will be advertised, check back frequently as we will be constantly adding positions at the planning and, eventually, at the activity level.
