Sunrise Ceremony

At 08:00 the morning of August 1, 2007, a kudu horn will blow in 155 Scouting countries around the world.

It will echo the sound made one hundred years ago by the founder of the Scouting movement, Lord Robert Baden-Powell. Baden-Powell brought together twenty boys of various social backgrounds for a camping trip at Brownsea Island in the United Kingdom. From that small experimental camp sprang the beginnings of a movement that would span a hundred years and unite millions of young people around the world. The horn that heralded the birth of Scouting now summons Scouters from all parts of the world to do better than they have ever done before.

Canadian Scouting's official Sunrise Ceremony will be held on August 1 at 08:00 EST; the last day of the Canadian Jamboree at Camp Tamaracouta, Quebec. The morning celebration will begin with a flag-raising, Scouts Own spiritual ceremony, and the renewal of their Scout Promise by all leaders and youth. It will be a significant time for Scouts and former Scouts, who will gather together to remember how Scouting was founded, what it has become and what it has accomplished.

In the United Kingdom, a grand celebration will take place where Scouting began. At the time which corresponds to 08:00 on Brownsea Island, Scouts will be able to link up to the celebrations there via the internet or television and celebrate with Scouts worldwide. Attending this unique event will be at least one Scout from every Scouting country in the world. With modern technology, Scouts are able to join in the celebrations with the 40,000 Scouts attending the World Scout Jamboree. Never before will so many Scouts be "together" at the same moment.

Le 1er août 2007 à 8h00 heure locale, un cor de kudu (de la famille des antilopes) retentira dans 155 pays scouts.

Il fera écho au cor dans lequel le fondateur du scoutisme, Robert Baden-Powell a soufflé il y a cent ans pour rassembler vingt garçons de divers milieux sociaux pour un camp sur l’île Brownsea au Royaume-Uni. De ce camp est né un mouvement centenaire qui unit des millions de jeunes partout dans le monde. Le cor qui a salué la naissance du scoutisme appelle maintenant les scouts de partout dans le monde de faire encore mieux qu’avant.

Le Lever du soleil officiel aura lieu le 1er août 2007 à 8h00, HNE; lors de la dernière journée du Jamboree canadien au camp Tamaracouta (Québec). La célébration matinale débute par le déploiement du drapeau, une cérémonie spirituelle et le renouvellement de la promesse scoute par l’ensemble des animateurs et des jeunes. C’est un moment significatif pour les scouts et les anciens qui se rassembleront pour commémorer la fondation du scoutisme, ce qu’il est devenu et ce qu’il a accompli.

En Grande-Bretagne, une grande cérémonie aura lieu à l’endroit même où le scoutisme fut fondé.
