Looking to Join another group:
4th Barrie has 1 leader and 2 scouts wanting to go to CJ. Would like to join another group to form a patrol - Michael McMulllen.

E-mail: m-mcmullen@sympatico.ca

Linking with a group:

I am seeking a group short a leader. We may have a couple of youth interested in attending but would need to link with another group. Feel free to contact me: Dianna Harrison.

E-mail: harrison6723@rogers.com

From Scott Young:
SOUTHERN ONTARIO GROUPS. The tri-shores contingent has acquired a tractor-trailer for gear and supplies heading to CJ. Pick-up and drop-off will be at the Scouts Canada Service centre in London. This is also open to sub-camps and programs needing to send material. FYI Checking extra bags on flights is contingent on space being available, If full extra bags go on the next flight.

Yours in Rovering,

E-mail: cj13@londonscouts.ca

Room for extra Scouts:

Scouts want to attend CJ2013 but your numbers are too small? Scouts want to attend but no leaders available? Want to get hooked up with another Scout Troop and the deadline is fast approaching?

We have 2 Patrols of four including four fit, fully-trained leaders registered for CJ. We "had" nine Scouts going but one had to drop out. We'll be glad to add Scouts from other Groups, especially from the Toronto area.

Looking to Join a Group - From: Kate Muzyka:
We are from Surrey BC and are looking for another group with gear to join our half patrol. We have 3 leaders and 4 youth, we are happy to have 2 of our leaders register as OOS to make up a patrol if need be.

Local Perspective:
Hey guys!

I am very excited to be going to CJ 2013! As an Edmonton Scout I feel that I should give some advice to those flying into Edmonton. Here it is :

1. Be prepared for delays such as de-icing ect.

2. If you want a hotel near the airport, I recommend the new airport hotel ( check EIA's site for more details ). If you are looking for something cheaper, there are tons of motels and hotels near by.

I look forward to meeting you all at Camp Woods soon.

Looking for a Group to Join:
As a troop we are unable to go (no financial commitment from parents). Now one parent has changed their mind and wants to send their son. Is there any group in the eastern Ontario (Odawa) area that has an opening for 1 more Scout.

E-mail: dbgvk68@gmail.com

Jason writes:
The Troop has up to two leaders available from a patrol that was created, but, is no longer needed. We registered two patrols and before we make changes before the deadline we are offering this possibility. The Troop is experienced in travelling and has capable youth which are all boys. We have extra flights available and would offer these with the same privileges as a group. If there is a group who needs leaders or youth who need a group we may be able to help. We know that things should be of best fit, so we welcome the tough questions.

I am seeking a group looking for another leader. We have no youth committed to go in our group, 11th Whitby in Ontario. I prefer to be in a leader role with youth, rather than offer of service for CJ. I am current group commissioner, previous troop leader. I have participated in composite camps before and am hard working and easy going. Feel free to contact me.

Hello Everyone, My troop is in the same situation as many others. We have two leaders and two Scouts who can go, unfortunately that does not meet the criteria for CJ. We are hoping to link up with another small troop so that we can get our Scouts to CJ.Our troop is 3rd PG West and we are located in Prince George BC. We plan on driving to CJ.It would be great to get another 3-4 scouts and one leader. Please contact me ASAP if interested so we can try and get registered before the end of the month deadline [try and save everyone some money]. Our troop has decent gear/tents that we would be willing to share if your troop needs some.

Kevin Brodt - RE: Shipping pallets to CJ
I would humbly suggest that if you need to palletize your gear for CJ you are taking too much. You need to question whether you want to spend time tending to "stuff" or spend time getting off of your site and experiencing the jamboree.

We took a unit from 15th New West (RIP) to CJ'97 via air from YVR to YWG, then bus from YWG to Thunder Bay. For 10 participants (2 Scouters + 8 youth) we had one loaded pack each plus a single duffle for extra tarps, ropes, poles (11 pieces total). It comes down to planning, prep, gear selection, and PRACTICE ahead of time, to pull off a light-weight jamboree ("... Wise in the use of all resources"). It sparked an internal challenge to get lighter and lighter. Upon arrival, while other units waited hours (literally) for transport to their sub-camp, we "backpacked" it in the 1 to 2km to our farthest placed sub-camp. Just my 2 cents.

Cheryl wonders
I have 3 youth and 2 leaders, and another group in South Lake Simcoe Area we will be camping with has 7 youth and 2 leaders. I have no idea it works booking flights for youth that are not your own children, and I am guessing I will have to pay for them up front, as we have not collected the flight money yet (have a monthly payment plan of $175). Any information would be appreciated.

We think someone in the area is looking into ways to ship the gear... I pack light for canoe trips, but my tripping bag is still probably bigger than the airline would take!

Looking for a travel partner
My son, Scott Farrell, aged 15 years, would like to be connected with either a Scout or Venturer group who would be going out to CJ 13. Scott is part of 1st Nepean Venturers and is also a MedVent volunteer, but these groups are not going to CJ. He would like to be able to travel with a group if possible. If a leader or advisor could contact me that would be great.

I can be reached by email at rcfarrell@rogers.com or by phone at 613-596-3166.

Thank you,

Rosemary

I can appreciate that not everyone has a final count of those attending CJ'13.For those that do and are thinking of going by air, you might want to think about booking your seats soon if you haven't already done so.

Flights will fill up quickly along with potential higher fees for bookings closer to departure time. This may leave you scrambling at the last minute. Also, check with your carrier for package size requirements and other restrictions.

As a member of the CJ'13 Sub-Camp Triceratops I am looking forward to meeting you and perhaps doing a little badge trading.

I am the priest in an Anglican Church (parish of Salisbury and Havelock). Our parish has had a long-standing relationship with our Baden-Powell groups, yet in the minds of many church goers, that means giving them a free place to meet. I'm trying to make it much more than that, and to see if the parish can help in the fundraising and preparation with our Scouts. If other troops are connected to parishes, perhaps they can help too.

I've got a rate on shipping equipment from South Western Ontario. For approx. $500, the company will pick up, ship and return one 4x4x7' skid. To get this rate, we need to fill up a truck with 26 skids. One skid should fill up about 1-2 patrols. Propane tanks can be transported. For full details, please contact me ASAP. Slots will be allocated on a first come-first serve basis.

I am a member of the 6th Cole Harbour, NS parent committee. We currently have 2 maybe 3 scouts available to attend CJ'13 which is not enough to make a CJ'13 team. We are seeking other troops (any province) that could add them to their patrol.

Our group would like to fly to CJ from Toronto and would like to send some things by road. If someone is planning for a skid or 2, maybe we can add some things and help with the cost. Let us know. Is any other group planning to fly from Toronto? Can we work together for group rate improvement on airfare? We expect possibly 8 for our unit.

Join Us on the Bus:
I am looking into getting a charter bus (washrooms, dvd player etc) from Toronto or Barrie, Ontario to Sylvan Lake, Alberta. We would be leaving July 3 and arrive at jamboree for July 6. Returning on July 13 and arriving back July 16/17. We would be stopping at hotels along the way (Marathon, Ontario, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lloydminster, Alberta, and then Sylvan Lake) and am looking into providing meals for breakfast and dinner but everyone would need money for lunch. The bus could take personal gear (suit case size) but probably not all the camping gear. I am hopeful that the total cost per person would be around $600 assuming all 56 passengers are booked.

If interested in going on the bus (the bus company is located in Toronto but would have a pick up in Barrie) please email Rachel at: rgraham_hockeymom@yahoo.ca

How to Prepare?:
Our troop is planning to attend our first ever Canadian Jamboree. What should I be doing to prepare the boys for this experience and suggested items to pack? Any help would be appreciated.

Please e-mail me at: patcon@sympatico.ca

Scouter George suggests:
Shipping equipment to camp? Areas may wish to consider combining/skidding all equipment and shipping via LTL in advance to minimize costs.

Are there any groups in the Greater Toronto Area looking to team up for travel?

Ed Buckle writes:
I'm planning on going as an OOS and looking for a driving partner from South Western Ontario. A three day trip is planned so it will be a heavy driving schedule to get there at least the day before and then get home to Ontario right after. Have already planned itinerary and am willing to share route, all via Canadian soil. Planning on two nights camping on the way there and back.

If interested, please contact: ebuckle@bmts.com

Jason Liebregts offers these tips for packing and flying:
The 1st Whitby Troop, Ontario is experienced with international travel, and this message is for Marsha and others looking for advice packing gear. Each person is allowed to check in on flights with two pieces of gear. Use the first for the pack and the second for any equipment. Get medium sized zippered duffle bags (Walmart). They can fit three tents, shelter, and you can stuff things like a first aid kit, tarps, flags, etc on the ends (use a travel padlock on the zipper).

For hardware you may purchase a cargo safe bin that you can padlock (Lowes). Make sure that your items have no room to move around in the bin! This can also be checked in or use the soft duffle method above. Make sure that weight is under the air lines limit or you will pay extra. Also note that no pressurized items are allowed and to make your stoves flight safe. When you land you can get propane or fuel from the jamboree as these items are not allowed to fly.

If you are packing more than ten person's worth of gear, you are packing too much! Good luck.

Any more questions? E-mail troop@1stwhitbyscouts.ca
