This has been the fastest, the most exciting and most encouraging time in the history of Scouting that I can remember.  We’ve just completed our fall tour of numerous Councils, visiting Scouters in Edmonton, Manitoba, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, and White Pine, PEI, Quebec, Northern Lights, Shining Waters, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia Councils.  If I could choose one word to describe what I’ve seen it’s ENERGY.  Your energy, your commitment, and your ideas continue to amaze and impress me.  How tremendous it has been to meet and talk with so many of you – thanks to all who came out to see us.  Only by listening to our Scouters, those of you on the front lines, can we hope to implement ideas that will help you, and reach our membership goal of doubling our membership in the next five years..

In late November, I officiated at Scouts Canada’s Annual General Meeting and National Conference in Regina, Saskatchewan, where I brought your feedback to Scouts Canada’s Board of Governors, National Youth Network, Council Commissioners and Executive Directors and of course the Scouting Now Task Force on Growth. It was a week of excitement, new ideas and productive discussion.  I was particularly pleased to see the overwheIming commitment of our Council leadership to growing Scouting from coast to coast.  I hope you’ll enjoy The Year of Scouting Now, this year’s dynamic and information-packed Annual Report, the document that highlights our vision for Scouts Canada. Keep thinking BIG!  Let's get out there and tell the story of the difference we're making, and let's invite more youth and families to join us.

May I now take this opportunity to wish all of you in the Scouting family a very happy, safe and Scoutlike holiday.  May all your wishes come true.  I look forward to working with you in 2010!

Happy Holidays!  Good Scouting!
