Sacrificing Christmas Holiday

30 Rovers Going to The Philippines to help train there

30 Vancouver young Scout leaders, aging from 18 years to 26 years, yesterday received their Flag Presentation ceremony. They are going to give up their very valuable Christmas holiday and will go the Davao City of the Philippines to spend 12 days there to train some 500 young people on a series of topics on leadership.

These 500 young people in Davao City will learn management, first aid, climate change, and it is estimated to cost them about $35,000 which they had raised funding themselves.

The Flag Presentation ceremony was officiated by the Honourable Ujjal Dosanjh, M.P. (Vancouver South). These young Scout leaders will showcase to the world what Canadian young people are capable of with their courage, peace loving and creativeness.

Commended by the Deputy Executive Commissioner Mr. John Chow, the Contingent Leader, these young leaders are from all parts of Vancouver and during last year, they had had entered into at least 500 hours of doing fund raising and planning for this project.

Kevin Li and Kevin Kwong are senior leaders of this group and they recognize the complimentary ability of the team members; they also acknowledge that there will challenges ahead, but are confident the team will accomplish its tasks of this international project with flying colour.
