New Leader Resources

Welcome to a new adventure in your life!  You are one of thousands of adults across Canada who will be enjoying the Scouting life along with a group of wonderful kids. Congratulations!

Scouts Canada's organization
You are a leader of a Scouting section (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Venturers or Rovers). Your section is part of a group, and an area. Your area is part of a council. Scouts Canada is divided into twenty geographic councils across Canada. Click here for the council page.

Commissioners
Your group is headed by your Group Commissioner, who is responsible for all activities pertaining to his/her group. The Area Commissioner is responsible for group activities within his or her area. Your council is led by a volunteer Commissioner. Click here for list of Commissioners. The Commissioner is responsible for all volunteers in his/her council.

Scouting Life Magazine
You will begin to receive the Scouting Life six times per year. This publication is full of program ideas and regular columns covering almost every avenue of Scouting.

National Website
You can find lots of information on our national website under For Leaders. As well, your council and area or group may even have websites of their own.

WOSM Website - Action for Growth
Click on the link above to read about some of the key elements of leadership, getting to know the youth in your group and how to maintain membership.  This link will also provide you with some examples of good practice that successful Scouting associations have developed.

Help
Your first avenue of assistance for difficulties within your group should be your Group Commissioner.  You may always feel free to contact your Area or Council Commissioner as well.
