At Scouts Canada, our mission is to develop well-rounded youth better prepared for success in the world. During your time as a Scouter, how have you impacted the mission?
I have impacted this mission by helping the Scouters in my Group develop a passion for delivering our mission. Passionate Scouters, aligned to the mission, bring great and challenging programming that create an environment to grow great value for our youth and their families. This results in youth who have become well-rounded, and better prepared for future success.
As a Scouter, you play a key role in bringing Scouts Canada’s vision of Canadian youth making a meaningful contribution to creating a better world to fruition. How have you contributed to helping achieve this vision?
I have helped youth feel they make meaningful contributions through linking Scoutrees with helping the Earth; linking Scout Popcorn to the No One Left Behind Program, and giving back to Scouting; linking community clean-ups with helping the earth; and linking their volunteering at community events to their civic duty. This has helped the youth see that each one of us is responsible for putting in some effort; and if we all did, our world would be in a much better state.
If you could offer one piece of advice to a new Scouter, what would it be?
Take the training; learn what Scouting means in Canada; and get involved. Scouting offers a unique and amazing opportunity for volunteers to really get involved and have a life-long impact on the youth, the Group, the community, and the organization.
