Robert Joseph Laughton, Q.C., LL.D
Scouts Canada is saddened to hear about the passing of Robert (Bob) Joseph Laughton. Bob played a pivotal role within the Scouting community, receiving the highest honour of the Silver Wolf Award for his lengthy and exceptional service as Honourary Legal Counsel.
A strong supporter of an inclusive movement, Bob drafted the Private Member’s Bill which changed the organizations name from “Boy Scouts of Canada” to “Scouts Canada”, in recognition of the shift to a co-ed program. In Bob’s role, he also contributed to the vibrant property of Camp Opemikon where thousands of youth each year enjoy outdoor adventure and fun.
We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Judy and the entire Laughton family. A true Scout and gentlemen, Bob’s contributions to Canadian youth through Scouting will not be forgotten.
