1st Lennoxville connect with peers from near and far

There was a lot of excitement at the 1st Lennoxville Scouts when a Scout group from Stornoway in the Western Isles of Scotland reached out to us a few weeks ago, informing us of their plan to visit the Eastern Townships in the summer of 2020.

The 2nd Stornoway Scouts will be visiting communities with Scottish descent in our area, and are keen to meet their Canadian fellow Scouts.

1st Lennoxville is planning a get-together with our guests -possibly at the Lake Lovering Reserve- to which we will be inviting other Scout groups from the Quebec Council. The much-anticipated event is all the more fascinating for our members, as we’ve come to learn that some of our Scottish peers speak Gaelic.

A little closer to home, our Beaver Colony has recently been contacted by the 4th Georgetown Beavers in Ontario, who expressed an interest in starting a pen pal correspondence with us, as part of an initiative to learn about Scout groups in different provinces. They sent us a package with pictures of their Colony and information about Ontario. Our Beavers dedicated their last meeting to writing letters and drawing pictures for our fellow Beavers in Ontario.

On a more local level, our annual Kub Kar Rally took place last Saturday at the Lennoxville Hut. For the first time in many years we were joined by the 1st Richmond Scouts for this memorable event.

The 1st Lennoxville Scout Group welcomes such exchanges with our friends in the Scouting movement. It is through opportunities like these that we realize how much we have in common.

Yours in Scouting,
Didi Gorman, 1st Lennoxville Scouts
