GroupJamboree Overview

Every four years, tens of thousands of Venturer aged youth, from every corner of the world, gather in a tented city for two weeks of activities and adventure! This is a fantastic event where up to 30,000 Scouts (Venturers) live and learn together. This amazing first-hand experience of multi-culturalism gives participants an opportunity to interact and participate with others from different cultures and to build solidarity and understanding across cultural and geographical boundaries.

The Make-Up of the Canadian Contingent
In 2011, Scouts Canada and l’Association des Scouts du Canada will be sending a joint contingent to the World Jamboree in Sweden. At present, the Canadian Contingent consists of approx 400 participants, with 32 leaders, 245 youth participants, 102 IST and 20 CMT members and VIP/guests. Although registration is now closed to Leaders and IST, we will still be accepting a small number of youth registrations, and this in conjunction with any withdrawals may cause the above numbers to change slightly over the course of the next few months.

Aimed at 14 to 17 year olds, Scouts (Venturers) attend the event in national groups, called "contingents". One contingent from each country recognized by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) is invited to attend. As there are currently 160 member countries in WOSM, this event is sure to host a large array of attendees! This event is a peace building exercise on an enormous scale, which is supported by thousands of international adult volunteers.

The Canadian contingent will comprise of several units made up as follows:

The Patrol: Nine (9) youth and one (1) leader comprise a patrol. A patrol can be youth and a leader from one community, or can be made up of youth from across Canada!

The Unit: Four (4) Patrols, (thirty-six (36) youth and four (4) leaders) make up a Jamboree Unit. Most of the formal Jamboree program activities are based on a Unit.

IST: All International Service Team (IST) members at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden 2011, will be active Scouts and will be at least 18 years of age at the beginning of the event - meaning they must have been born on or before July 24th, 1993. Members of the IST should be able to speak English and/or French and be prepared to take on any task needed to help prepare and/or successfully run the Jamboree. IST will arrive on site on July 25th, 2011 and depart on August 8th, 2011.
