About Scouts Canada

Scouts Canada is the country’s leading co-ed youth organization, offering programming for children and youth aged 5-26.  With over 42,000 youth participating across the country, in multiple languages and reflecting Canada’s multicultural landscape, kids and youth in Scouts chart their own path of discovery.  Through a variety of fun experiences, outdoor adventures and contributions to their community, Scouts builds resilience and skills that set them up for life.   

Youth in Scouts are supported by a dedicated team of over 13,000 volunteers who collectively donate over two million hours of their time, providing youth with the opportunity to grow, to challenge themselves and to experience countless firsts.  Our volunteers help us bring our vision of youth making meaningful contributions to creating a better world to life by lifting people, communities and neighbourhoods. 

Scouts Canada is part of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) which has over 40 million members in 167 National Scout Organizations around the world.

The Canadian Path – Youth Led

The Canadian Path is the way Scouting is done in Canada. Through this program, Scouts pave their own path to outdoor adventure and fun by setting their own goals, creating organized plans to achieve these goals, and collectively reflecting on their experiences and personal development. Youth leadership is one of the many ways that the Scouts Canada program helps youth develop into critical thinkers and team players, better prepared for success in the world. Among the programs that allow youth to build on their leadership skills include the Youth Spokesperson Program and the Youth Leadership in Training Program. 

Youth Impact

For over 100 years, Scouts have experienced countless “firsts” through outdoor adventure and fun. Scouting youth also have a strong sense of civic responsibility and environmental awareness. From food and clothing drives to shoreline clean-ups and maintenance, Scouts encourages youth to give back. Contributing to communities across the country, Scouts help build a better Canada as active citizens creating positive change. 

Here are just a few examples of how Scouting youth are giving back and making an impact on their communities.

The Scout Method

Scouts Canada engages youth, involving them throughout their formative years in a non-formal educational process, using a specific Method that makes each individual the principal agent of his or her development as a self-reliant, supportive, responsible and committed person. The Scout Method is an approach unique to Scouting throughout the world (World Association of the Scouting Movement’s Scouting: An Educational System) and includes each of the following eight elements: 

  • Scout Law and Promise 
  • Learning by Doing 
  • The Team System 
  • A Symbolic Framework 
  • Nature 
  • Personal Progression 
  • Adult Support 
  • Community Involvement

Beavers I promise to love God and to help take care of the world I promise to be kind and to help take care of the world.
Cubs  I promise to do my best,
To love and serve God,
To do my duty to the King;
To keep the law of the Wolf Cub Pack,
And to do a good turn for somebody every day. 		 I promise to do my best,
To be true to myself,
To do my duty to my country;

All others including Volunteers On my honour;
I promise that I will do my best;
