Accounting Assistant

Scouts Canada is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our Finance Team. This role will be remote from your home office and can be located anywhere in Canada.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and as a critical member of the Finance Team, you will be responsible for supporting the financial activities through handling the day-to-day accounting processes including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, deposits, data entry, accounts analysis and reconciliations.

 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Reconciling, balancing, and processing all deposits.
  • Reconciling and balancing invoices, inventory, cash receipts and reports for online retail operations.
  • Preparing invoices and reports as necessary for Accounts Receivable.
  • Following up for prompt payment and problem resolution on outstanding invoices.
  • Accounts payable processing and cheque preparation.
  • Analyzing and reconciling GL accounts.
  • Researching and resolving Help Centre tickets and inquiries.
  • Maintaining databases and files.
  • Serve as backup for other accounting department tasks.
  • Various administration duties as required. 

 

Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Two to three years of experience in an accounts payable/accounts receivable role.
  • Demonstrated fluency with major accounting software, experience with Great Plains an asset.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • High degree of accuracy to attention and detail and ability to work to deadlines.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic with ability to take initiative and be adaptable to change.

 

Working Conditions

  • Works in a home office environment
  • Some work is extremely deadline driven
  • Aptitude with desktop computers, and other company applications.
  • Must role model values of Scouts Canada, including the Child and Youth Safety program.
  • PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) required
  • Mandatory training requirement, ie Scouts Canada specific training as well as ESA/OHSA training
  • Must be willing to abide by all Scouts Canada policies including our current Vaccination Policy
