ABOUT CAMP OPEMIKON

Since 1938, Camp Opemikon has served the camping needs of more than half a million members of the Scouting community. The camp is owned and operated by Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, and is one of the finest residential Scout camps in Canada.

This camp is located on the southern tip of the Canadian Shield on Christie Lake, 100 km southwest of Ottawa. This idyllic camp is located on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect Scouting adventure away from busy roads and crowded cities.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Campground Coordinator is responsible for all administrative duties related to campground operations including but not limited to: reservations management, check-in & check-out procedures, and general customer service. Detailed recording and documentation of contact tracing, program sign-up systems, and capacity tracking is a crucial component of the Campground Coordinator’s daily routines. This position is primarily based out of the Camp Office and will also oversee Camp Store and Tuck Shop sales.

The Campground Coordinator is a designated supervisor on-site and serves as the first and main point of contact for all guests during work hours. A strong commitment to the prescribed duties is imperative to successful campground operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position will be rewarded with a beautiful natural work environment and plenty of fresh air this summer. A portion of the Campground Coordinators duties will take place outdoors and require one to adapt to conditions (sun, heat, bugs, rain, and cold).

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, we are asking that all program and campground staff (other than Maintenance) commit to staying on-site for the entirety of their contract this season; forming and maintaining a “staff bubble” and reducing the risk of transmission due to external close contacts. Staff will be housed in Tabins or Cabin accommodations and a Camp Cook will be employed to provide hearty, healthy meals for the staff team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in planning and implementation of staff training
  • Enhance the organization of administrative responsibilities to maintain smooth day-to-day operations
  • Complete data entry, responsible for the publication/distribution of daily and weekly reports, conduct follow-up correspondence with guests, and support with incident reporting
  • Serve as the first and main point of contact for all guests during set hours of work
  • Manage Camp Store & Tuck shop sales, inventories, and re-stocks
  • Conduct routine guest experience evaluations
  • Assist with routine staff performance evaluations
  • Contribute to implementing health and safety protocols on-site

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Standard First Aid & CPR (level C)
  • Current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current knowledge of Scouts Canada program and The Canadian Path
  • Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principals, and Practices of Scouts Canada
  • Knowledge of camping equipment and outdoor skills
  • Superb oral and written communication skills; experience in data entry & report writing
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize a variety of tasks
  • Excellent customer service and proven management skills
  • Proven leadership, conflict resolution/mediation abilities
  • Ability to work and make decisions in high stress situations
  • A strong desire and willingness to positively impact the experiences of guests, employees, co-workers through action and example
