Camp Opemikon 2021

Since 1938, Camp Opemikon has served the camping needs of more than half a million members of the Scouting community. The camp is owned and operated by Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, and is one of the finest residential Scout camps in Canada.

This camp is located on the southern tip of the Canadian Shield on Christie Lake, 100 km southwest of Ottawa. This idyllic camp is located on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect Scouting adventure away from busy roads and crowded cities.


The Staff Kitchen Coordinator (1 position) is responsible for serving a staff of 12 in all food operations, including menu planning, food ordering, inventory control, meal preparation & clean up. With a set food budget in place, the successful candidate must possess a strong comprehension of portioning and food costing practices. Adherence to standard Food Safety protocol is required, as is compliance with all COVID-19 safe food practices.

This is a highly independent job that requires one to be comfortable working alone and with taking initiative to overcome challenges. Cleanliness, excellent time management, and organization are essential qualities for success. 


The Staff Food Coordinator will be rewarded with a beautiful natural work environment and plenty of fresh air this summer.  This position works independently throughout the day and, overtime, has the opportunity to create a flexible work schedule according to their proven time management abilities s and job performance.

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, we are asking that all staff (other than Maintenance) commit to staying on-site for the entirety of their contract this season; forming and maintaining a “staff bubble” and reducing the risk of transmission due to external close contacts. Staff will be housed in Tabins or Cabin accommodations.


  • Plan, prepare, & serve 3 meals per day, 5 days per week, for a staff of 12
  • Prepare weekend meals in advance and package/freeze/store accordingly
  • Place weekly food orders according to menu plan and food budget allowances
  • Control food inventories and minimize food waste through proper planning and storage practices
  • Prepare weekly food expense reports
  • Regular sanitation and maintenance of a clean work environment



  • Standard First Aid & CPR (level C)
  • Current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current Food Handlers Certification
  • Proven cooking and food preparation experience
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize a variety of tasks
  • Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principals, and Practices of Scouts Canada
