Camp Opemikon 2021

REPORTS TO: Camp Director

  • June 21st through September 6th
  • 11 weeks
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
    • Live-In

Since 1938, Camp Opemikon has served the camping needs of more than half a million members of the Scouting community. The camp is owned and operated by Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, and is one of the finest residential Scout camps in Canada.

This camp is located on the southern tip of the Canadian Shield on Christie Lake, 100 km southwest of Ottawa. This idyllic camp is located on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect Scouting adventure away from busy roads and crowded cities.

Lifeguard Staff (2 positions) are responsible for supervising the Opemikon Beach and ensuring a safe swimming area for guests. A current NLS certification is required.

The Lifeguard Staff will be rewarded with a beautiful natural work environment and plenty of fresh air this summer. Lifeguards will be stationed at the beach during peak hours of camp operation—8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Two 15 minute breaks and one 1 hour break will be part of the daily schedule. Camp will be closed to the public for one full day and two half days per week, providing time for staff to re-charge and enjoy all that Opemikon has to offer.

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, we are asking that all staff (other than Maintenance) commit to staying on-site for the entirety of their contract this season; forming and maintaining a “staff bubble” and reducing the risk of transmission due to external close contacts. Staff will be housed in Tabins or Cabin accommodations. A Camp Cook will be employed to provide hearty, healthy meals to the staff team daily.
