ABOUT CAMP OPEMIKON

Since 1938, Camp Opemikon has served the camping needs of more than half a million members of the Scouting community. The camp is owned and operated by Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, and is one of the finest residential Scout camps in Canada.

This camp is located on the southern tip of the Canadian Shield on Christie Lake, 100 km southwest of Ottawa. This idyllic camp is located on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect Scouting adventure away from busy roads and crowded cities.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the management of all camp program activities and events for adults and youth. With the common goal of enhancing the camping experience for all, this role will support a team of 7 program staff, thus, the successful candidate must posses strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven organizational abilities. The Program Coordinator is a designated supervisor on-site, a strong commitment to the prescribed duties is imperative to successful program operations.

This is a forward-facing supervisory role and requires the individual to interact on the frontline of customer service, always willing and ready to address questions or concerns. Guest feedback will be monitored regularly in-person and through automated surveys. The Program Coordinator will be required to assess these results and adjust programmming as necessary according to successes, challenges, and feedback. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Program Coordinator will be rewarded with a beautiful natural work environment and plenty of fresh air this summer. All programming takes place outdoors and therefore requires employees to be comfortable adapting to the elements (heat, sun, bugs, rain, cold).

Due to the risks associated with COVID-19, we are asking that all program and campground staff (other than Maintenance) commit to staying on-site for the entirety of their contract this season; forming and maintaining a “staff bubble” and reducing the risk of transmission due to outside close contacts. Staff will be housed in Tabins or Cabin accommodations and a Camp Cook will be employed to provide hearty, healthy meals for the staff team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Director with selection and evaluation of all program staff
  • Assist in planning and implementation of staff training 
  • Develop the program booking systems on-site for guests to access upon check-in and throughout their stay 
  • Develop camp program and oversee daily delivery 
  • Tend to guest inquireies and concerns related to program offerings
  •  Manage and support Program Staff Team 
  • Conduct routine guest experience evaluations 
  • Conduct routine staff performance evaluations 
  • Contribute to implementing health and safety protocols on-site 
  • Applicable administrative responsibilities related to documentation, reports, and tracking 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Standard First Aid & CPR (level C)
  • Clear and current Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check 
  • Current knowledge of Scouts Canada program and the Canadian Path 
  • Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principals, and Practices of Scouts Canada
  • Knowledge of camping equipment and outdoor skills 
  • Experience working with youth in education or program based environments 
  • Experience and training in accessibility and inclusion in order to meet all participant's needs 
  • Proven leadership, conflict resolution/mediation, and customer service skills 
  • Ability to work and make decisions in high stress situations 
  • A strong desire and willingness to positively impact the experiences of guests, employees, co-workers through action and example
