Program Support Manager

Scouts Canada’s program is delivered by thousands of community-based volunteers across Canada. The Program Support team exists to support and enable these volunteers to deliver high quality programming though development opportunities, join-in events, third party courses, and dedicated coaching.

Program Support Managers, in collaboration with local volunteer leadership, are jointly accountable for managing the local networks of volunteers to deliver support to Scout Groups and Sections. Key success measures will include volunteer and youth retention, engagement, and program quality.

This role will be remote from your home office and can be located anywhere in Canada. 

Specifically, you will be responsible for the following:

Council Key 3 (CK3) Engagement and Consultation

Council team are key partners in enabling and supporting quality Scouting programs. Program Support Managers are the single point of contact between local Program Support teams and CK3s. These responsibilities include:

• Providing CK3s with regular status updates regarding Program Support team activities.
• Consulting with CK3s to understand program and volunteer support requirements.
• Coordinating with local Scouting Relationship Managers and Group Support Scouters to provide focused Section Support where required.
• Providing prompt responses to CK3 and Council support team inquiries.

Program Support

In collaboration with local volunteer leadership, ensure that Section Scouters have access to learning opportunities which with support and enhance their ability to deliver Scouting programs. These responsibilities are identified but not limited to:

• Recruitment, development and management of networks of volunteer teams to manage local workshops, online tutorials, in-person support, events and other support mechanisms.
• Implementing and coordinating experiential learning workshops for Scouts Canada volunteers.
• Implementing and coordinating Outdoor Adventure Skills aligned third party certifications (e.g. First Aid, Paddling, etc).
• Implementing and coordinating on-line learning opportunities for volunteers.

 Other Duties

• As a non-profit with a relatively small staff team there will be occasions where other responsibilities or projects will be assigned.

Education, Experience, & Skills

• A passion for Scouts Canada’s Mission and in-depth knowledge of Scouts Canada’s policies, procedures, standards and programs are essential.
• Related post-secondary education or combination of education and work experience.

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a volunteer management-related role. Knowledge of Policies, Standards and Procedures, Scouting program, and Scouts Canada structure.
• In-depth knowledge in the following areas:
• Adult learning and development
• Outdoor recreation and education
• Event management
• Must hold a valid Canadian driver’s license

Working Conditions

• Works in a home-office environment
• Travels up to 5,000 kilometres per year, some overnight (10 to 20)
• Travel conditions - Reasonable to occasionally difficult
• Non-traditional working hours including evenings and weekends
• Mandatory Vaccination Requirement, subject to the employer’s duty to accommodate under applicable human rights legislation
• PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) required
• Mandatory training requirement
