Reports To: Program Director

Work Time: 35 hours per week, July 8th- September 2nd.

Reporting directly to the Program Director, the Counselors are responsible for the development & delivery of our leadership-based and camper programs on property, including creating all activities & monitoring the wellbeing of program participants. These positions are also responsible for all equipment, supplies & services necessary for the operation of said programs. This team must possess strong collaboration skills & be passionate about working with adolescents (aged 7-17 years). This position requires adaptability & an interest in supporting the Senior Staff in incorporating more of the Canadian Path principles into the Summer Camp Program. These positions will be essential in implementing and monitoring all health & safety protocols in accordance with provincial reopening guidelines and Public Health policies. For your safety and the safety of others, all Scouts Canada employees are required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 as a condition of employment (unless they have a valid exemption). Proof of vaccination status will be requested upon hire in addition to a clean Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

General Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for coordinating all aspects of the leadership development and camper programs, including planning activities and required materials.
  2. Responsible for all equipment used in the assigned programs.
  3. Assist in handling disciplinary concerns involving Senior Program participants according to progressive discipline principles.
  4. Regularly provide meaningful and clear feedback to program participants to enhance their personal growth.
  5. Support adolescents with goal setting and development in a variety of areas.
  6. Provide a final written report at conclusion of season highlighting successes and recommendations for change.
  7. Submit weekly supply requests to the Program Director
  8. Assist in the set-up/take down of camp & weekly turnover to various user groups.
  9. Contribute to implementing all health & safety protocols on-site (as assigned).
  10. Ability to work non-traditional business hours (as required).
  11. Complete all grant paperwork promptly as needed.
  12. Assist in other duties as requested by the Camp Director. 

Qualifications

  1. Experienced in developing and supervising leadership programming for adolescents.
  2. Experienced in working with teenaged youth; comfortable supporting youth with sensitive matters.
  3. Training in accessibility & inclusion to meet all participants’ needs.
  4. Proven ability to provide direction to others as necessary.
  5. Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a close partnership for the duration of the contract.
  6. Current Standard First Aid & CPR (Level C).
  7. Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles & Practices of Scouts Canada.
  8. Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  9. Strong communication & customer service skills.
  10. Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
