Assistant Camp Director — Camp McLean

TERM: July 1 – August 23, 2024. This position is a full-time 8 week commitment.

Tasks & Responsibilities:  

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the planning and implementation of staff training.
  • coordinating all camp program activities, materials, staff duties, safe program development.
  • Ensuring a variety of methods for age appropriate outdoor activities.
  • Providing registration and administration support.
  • Mentoring and support of junior staff with integration and strategies for inclusion of children and youth with exceptional abilities.
  • Enhancing the child’s self-esteem and confidence through positive reinforcement
  • Maximizing additional support, participation and integration of all youth on site.
  • Assisting with scheduling and preparing weekly Staff meetings and monitor safety and behaviour of participants.
  • Performing daily campground safety inspection
  • Assisting with the set-up and take down of all camp equipment.
  • Providing Staff development by participating in writing mid-summer and final evaluations for all staff.
  • Providing formal and informal feedback to employees.
  • Fostering an atmosphere of fun and create those cherished “at camp” memories for everyone.

Qualifications:

  • Strong Interpersonal and management skills.
  • Ability to work within a Team Environment.
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Understanding of Scouts Canada’s practices.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Valid Food Safe certificate (valuable but not required).
  • Previous experience working with youth would be an asset.

WAGE:

This is a contract position and a total salary, commensurate with skill and experience, will be established for the contract period.
