Maintenance Staff — Haliburton Scout Reserve

Reports To: Camp Ranger/Camp Director

General Description:

Our Maintenance Staff will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of camp sites, lodges, assisting with general repairs & infrastructure improvement under the guidance & direction of the Camp Director. Maintenance staff will also be asked to help facilitate safe & enjoyable visits for guests in a manner that meets COVID-19 safety controls in conjunction with the rest of our Summer Staff.  Successful applicants over the age of 18 will need to provide a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Responsibilities:

  • Be an effective role model to campers and This includes but is not limited to:
    • Living the vision, mission and values of Scouts Canada
    • Respectful treatment of all campers/staff
    • Compliance with all rules/regulations and safety procedures
    • Appropriate communication and interactions prior to, during and after camp
    • Maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout theemployment period
    • Displaying enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners, and positive relations with campers/staff.
  • Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers and implement appropriate process for the management of such.
  • Notify the Services Coordinator and Camp Director of any concerns as they
  • Be prepared and on time for all shifts assigned
  • Performing routine maintenance duties such as: cleaning of buildings washrooms and program areas, spills while always acting in a safe manner
  • Assist in providing maintenance services for properties and buildings including but not limited to, the care of all surfaces and service facilities; waste collection and disposal, painting, basic carpentry, minor repairs and other duties as may be reasonably assigned while always acting in a safe manner.
  • Assist in outside maintenance of grounds, gardens and parking lots, including but not limited to grass cutting, trimming, raking, and reseeding, clearing shrubs while always acting in a safe manner
  • Work independently and as team to complete tasks set
  • Lift up to 15kg (30 lbs) safely and stand for extended periods
  • Assist with other duties outside of this description
  • Assist in the orderly and secure storage of equipment and tools

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Standard First Aid with CPR Certification, Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Certifications may be required for specific areas such as lifeguard, watercraft, ropes, riflery.
  • Completes Scouts Canada screening process including a clear Police Records Check, with Vulnerable sector check and all required training by the date provided by the Camp Director.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements.

Preferred Skills

  • A valid Driver’s License and a clear driver’s abstract.
  • Embodies personal beliefs in keeping with the Mission, Principles & Practices of Scouts Canada.
  • Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  • Strong communication & customer service skills.
  • Experienced in working in a camp environment.
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
  • Basic carpentry skills & ability to operate hand tools; general knowledge of maintenance procedures.
  • Must wear closed toed shoes & have a pair of steel-toed shoes/boots for use.
