I have been a registered member of Scouting since 2010 and prior to that I was a registered member of Girl Guides of Canada for 20 plus years. I joined the 1st Topsail Cub Pack with my son when he became a Cub and have been actively involved in Scouting. I strongly believe in the principles and values of Scouting and what it offers to youth throughout the world. I have held various roles in Scouting including Scouter for Cubs, Scouts and Venture groups. I have completed all the necessary training and safety requirements for Scouts Canada and continue to stay up to date with trainings.
I have served as one of the three Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) representatives since 2019 and believe that my involvement has resulted in some important changes in the voting representatives' role within Scouting. I have voiced the concerns of NL and have never missed a meeting/video conference or Annual General Meeting since my election to be the NL representative. I hope to continue to support Scouting and once again put my name forward as the NL Council Voting Representative.
I have a love of nature and I enjoy outdoor adventures whether that be camping (year-round), hiking, canoeing, cooking skills and spending time with youth and Scouters with likeminded values. I have become known at the Scouter to teach outdoor cooking skills to the youth in CBS sharing my knowledge of open fire cooking, box oven, buddy burners as well as various stove cooking skills.
I have attended several group year-end camps, provincial jamborees, national camps and interprovincial exchanges within Canada and proud to have been involved with the 24th World Jamboree. The majority of these travel adventures included fundraising and supporting youth who would never be able to take advantage of these opportunities if they were not members of Scouting. I believe in the values of Scouting to empower youth to be everything they want to be. Whether that is exploring STEM, trying new foods, or tackling new outdoor adventures, the pleasure I receive personally is when I see a youth step outside their comfort zone to reach new heights. I strongly believe Scouting is a wonderful organization, providing a place for youth to feel valued and supported where they have a voice that matters.
I have also been a registered leader with the Duke of Edinburgh program for 10 plus years and continue to be active in supporter of this program, which like Scouting is a global program with the goal of challenging and empowering youth to set goals and challenge them to take control of their lives and future.
I am an alumnus of Memorial University of Newfoundland and have more than 30 years of business experience working in management roles. I have served on various boards/committee throughout my business career and have a strong understanding of business operations and decision-making processes. I have managed several special projects, acquired funding/grant applications and been successful in acquiring more than $10 million in funding/grants for various projects throughout my career.
Scouting continues to one of the best values for our youth. It is a wonderful program where youth in communities across the country are provided a platform that helps them chart their individual lives and equips them with important life skills.
I offer myself as a Voting Member for Scouts Canada representing the Newfoundland and Labrador Council.
