Newfoundland & Labrador Jamboree @ Home

March 17, 2021

Join the Fun on March 26-27, 2021

THE DETAILS

The 1st United, Gander Scout Group and the Newfoundland & Labrador Council are hosting our first ever Jamboree @ Home!  While the province is temporarily stuck in Stage 1 of our Return to Scouting Plan (Virtual Scouting), we wanted to do something to bring us all together and get kids doing fun activities with their families -- maybe even learning a few things along the way!

We invite all Scouts Canada groups and Girl Guide units in Newfoundland & Labrador to participate along with other similar groups and even families or individuals from the general public.  It's free to participate, but we'll be selling Activity Crests (details below).

It's easy to participate: on March 26-27 camp out in the living room, the laundry room, or if you're really brave, your backyard (brrr!).  Basically just sleep somewhere that isn't your bedroom.  Build a pillow or blanket fort, pull out the sleeping bags, or pitch a real tent, it doesn't matter as long as you're safe, cozy, and warm.  Spend some time with your family, play some games, go on an adventure, and have fun...that's all we ask!

WIN A PRIZE!

Over the weekend we have a series of challenges for you to participate in for your chance to win an awesome prize donated by The Outfitters (see bottom of page for details!).  To enter the random prize draw, just complete the challenges below and submit a photo and caption using the Submission Form below.  Each challenge and photo you submit will get you an entry in the draw.  We'll be sharing the photos on our Council Facebook Page (with your permission) to show everyone how awesome you are!  We'll also post some resources over the weekend that you can use to challenge yourself and have even more fun!

You must submit one Challenge Submission Form for each challenge you complete.  At least one photo must be included and you can include up to 5.  The submission deadline will be 7PM (Newfoundland Time) on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Challenges:
  • Build a shelter indoors or outdoors for you or your family to sleep in!
  • Help cook a meal.  Don't forget dessert. Mmm!
  • Get active outdoors! (go for a hike or snowshoe, build a snowman, lots of options)
  • Play a board game.  Maybe try a new one?  (we're not responsible for any arguements while playing Monopoly!)
  • Build a campfire.  This could be a real one outdoors or a fake one indoors. (don't start fires in your house, please!)
  • BONUS CHALLENGE (two prize entries): Use items around your house to build a device that will protect an egg when dropped from the ceiling.  No cheating -- the egg can't be hard-boiled! Be careful when standing on a chair or step-stool.

Be creative, try new things, and most of all....have FUN!

Groups are encouraged to order crests for all of their participants.  Individuals and families can also order crests.  Final crest orders will be taken on Monday, March 29 and crests will be shipped within 6-8 weeks.

Payment details for the crest can be found on the sign-up form.  The ideal payment method is by EMT to ganderscouting@gmail.com with password: Jamboree.
