Safety Education Specialist

As the Manager, Safety Education Specialist you will use your expertise to help develop and deliver safety programming, assess risk management and the development of strategies that looks to drive Scouts Canada’s safety leadership portfolio. As a part of the Safety team, you play a key role in delivering a safety program generously supported by Scouts Canada’s corporate partner, while helping to grow Scouts Canada’s Safety Leadership profile. You have a passion for safety and youth programming, and are an organized professional with a solid understanding of project management principles.

In this role, you will work collaboratively with key stakeholders including reporting key performance indicators to the Revenue Development team, and working in conjunction with the Communications team, Program team, volunteers, and corporate partners.

Specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • As a subject matter expert, further Scouts Canada as a leader in safety culture and programming;
  • Provide leadership in the development of program concepts and program planning for corporately funded safety program targeted at a youth audience;
  • Give guidance and support on Scouts Canada’s safety procedures, policies and risk management;
  • Support key projects and initiatives that support risk mitigation;
  • Work cross-departmentally and organizationally to further develop a safety leadership culture;
  • Design and develop program resources targeted at youth, parents and members;
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop Safety program materials;
  • Oversee budget, track invoices and ensure funds spent adhere to contractual obligations;
  • Integrate Safety Program across organization and collaborate with key departments and stakeholders;
  • Manage documentation for auditing purposes;
  • Work with third party contractors where necessary;
  • Manage Safety events across Canada to further extend safety programming reach;
  • Collaborate with Revenue Development on reporting to corporate sponsors and partners on KPIs and progress;
  • Create reports to support funder requirements;
  • Meet with stakeholders to deliver progress reports and presentations on program milestones and KPIs
  • Support Scouts Canada’s Safety Team as required;
  • Other duties may be required.

What you bring to the table

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to convey safety information in a positive and engaging manner.
  • Leverages internal and external resources and expertise to develop safety programming;
  • Ability to translate organization vision into a project vision;
  • Role modelling safety compliant behaviours that set the benchmark of what is expected from others;
  • Ability to provide information regarding tasks, plans, schedule, strategies and org structure to stakeholders;
  • Knowledge of fundamental project management processes, methodologies and tools & techniques and ability to adapt them to organization;
  • Approx. 3-5 years of relevant work experience in risk assessment, youth protection, safety programming/education or safety management;
  • Proficient with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience developing and facilitating training sessions will be considered an asset.
  • Experience protecting children/vulnerable populations and managing threats to these populations will be considered an asset.
  • Professional designation or certification through a recognized safety organization or association will be considered an asset.
