Set up a Facebook account
If you are seeking a community-run, casual ‘forum’ or interactive group bulletin board, Facebook Pages are an option worth exploring. This social network a great place for open dialogue with Scouters and parents especially. Besides your website, this is where your local community will go for contact information, event postings, sharing images from activities or expressing feedback.
Create a Facebook Page
- Go to https://www.facebook.com/pages/create
- Select Company, Organization or Institution
- Choose the Non-profit Organization category and enter the name of your Group, Area or Council.
- Click Get Started and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you don’t have a profile or cover photo for the Page handy, the Social Media Graphics section has a gallery of Scouts Canada images and graphics for you to choose from.
- To share maintenance of this Page with other trusted Scouters or volunteers, invite them to be Administrators or Editors.
- Settings, Page Roles, Assign a New Page Role.
- In the Settings tab under Edit Page, you can add Tabs and change their privacy settings.
- We encourage you to keep your page Public so that the Scouting community can share in your journey—however be sure to avoid sharing specific details such as personal contact information, and ensure that youth members who have not signed photo release forms are respected and kept out of photos.
- Feature: Since Facebook owns Instagram, you can link both accounts by clicking the Instagram Tab.
- For volunteers involved in maintaining your page, click Crossposting to easily share content across your Group, Area and Council pages.
