The Nominating Committee of Scouts Canada is seeking applications for the positions of National Commissioner and National Youth Commissioner.
Candidates for these key volunteer roles at Scouts Canada should be committed to the values and principles of Scouting. Each should believe firmly that the Scouting movement is of benefit to Canadian society and be respected for their honesty, integrity, and personal ethics. Youth members are eligible to apply for both the National Commissioner & National Youth Commissioner position.
NATIONAL COMMISSIONER
The National Commissioner is responsible for partnering with the CEO and National Youth Commissioner to advance the operations of Scouts Canada. Together, the National "Key 3" oversees the implementation of the Scouts Canada Strategic Plan. This includes working with both Council & Functional Teams on execution of the plan and the Board of Governors in reporting on progress toward organizational goals.
The National Commissioner is also one of the key public representatives of Scouts Canada. This includes frequent engagement with our members, their parents, sponsors, governments, the media and more.
In collaboration with the National Key 3, the National Commissioner provides direct support to a number of our Councils, assisting them to ensure that more youth in their communities benefit from high quality Scouting programs. In order to be successful, the National Commissioner needs to be deeply committed to our model of shared leadership — partnering with professionals and young people to make all key decisions for the organization.
The National Commissioner position will require a significant time commitment. This includes participation in ten Board of Governors & Scouts Canada Leadership Team meetings per year, the Annual General Meeting, major Scouting activities such as Jamborees and public events, in addition to engagement with local groups across Canada.
