From clearing roads and trails to community cleanups and food drives, the 1st Uxbridge Scouts were ready to help in the wake of a recent tornado.
Craig Marlatt, group commissioner for the 1st Uxbridge Scouts, put a call out to the group’s Scouts and Venturer groups, which range in age from 11 to 17 years old, within an hour of the May 21 storm, and was overwhelmed at the response.
“It’s pretty amazing how enthusiastic the youth are to help,” he said. “When the call went out and we started going out into the streets, I saw people rushing to get their uniforms on and grab their tools. It’s a pretty impressive group of young people that show an interest in scouting, but over the years they really do develop that inner desire to do good for others.”
