When Ethan Woolf heads for St. Lawrence College next fall, he’ll be a step ahead of his classmates in his pre-firefighting training program.
The 18-year-old Bell High School student will have the first Jeff Dean award from the Ottawa Fire Services on his résumé and plenty of practical experience gained from his training with Ottawa Fire Venturers.
“It’s been fantastic,” said Woolf, dressed in his own firefighting bunker suit as he cinches tight the self-contained air pack on his back at the fire service training centre on Industrial Avenue.
“The instructors are all amazing. It provides young people with great networking opportunities if this is a career they want to go into.”
