It Starts with Scouts
Opening the door to friendship and adventure for girls and boys aged 5-7, Beaver Scouts discover the world through teamwork and fun activities.
Beavers and Cubs can select which Holiday Crest they want to work on and do a ‘good turn’ to achieve their crest. There are a few fun ways to recognize each youth’s act of service to others and the community in your next Section meeting:
Option 1
Before your Section sets out to do a good turn, have youth design a Holiday Crest of their choice and share it in your next meeting. After youth have done their good turns, they can award each other with the different Holiday Crests to recognize and celebrate their contributions.
Option 2
Get started with giving back! After each youth has done a good turn, they can design the Holiday Crest that describes their activity and write a brief story of their good turn. In your next meeting, youth can share their designs and stories of giving back.
Option 3
The holidays are a busy time, and sometimes activity planning can be a little tough this time of year! Keep it simple and engaging by having each youth select and design a Holiday Crest of their choice. In your next Section meeting, youth can share why they chose this crest and the design they created.
A place to discover new things and embark on great adventures.
Beaver Scouts experience diverse activities and a world of new adventures. Through nature walks, short hikes, tree planting, games, crafts and family events, Beaver Scouts gain valuable social skills while making new friends along the way. From camping to hiking and games galore, Beaver Scouts develop a respect for nature and others while exploring the world around them.
Gaining leadership skills by leading their peers on meaningful outdoor adventures.
Through outdoor activities, games, music and crafts, Beaver Scouts are introduced to leadership skills and develop self-confidence, making new friends along the way. Scouts Canada’s youth-led program empowers Beaver Scouts to pave their own path to outdoor adventure and fun by selecting and planning the activities they want to pursue—surrounded by committed and passionate Scouters who create a safe and inclusive environment.
Developing well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
With our Plan-Do-Review method, Beaver Scouts are empowered to learn by doing. Through Scouts Canada’s Youth-led programming, youth put leadership and teamwork into play by planning their activities with the guidance of an adult Scouter. The great Scouting adventure allows youth to explore new things, share ideas, learn new skills and create new paths.
Beaver Scouts is filled with a little bit of everything and plenty of opportunities for youth to personally develop in areas including like social, physical, intellectual, character, emotional and spiritual. Along the way Beaver Scouts meet new friends, learn cooperation and teamwork, and develop self-confidence.
As Canada’s largest youth organization, Scouts Canada places great importance on creating a fun and safe environment for our members. By embedding safety in everything we do, we create a culture of safety supported by comprehensive policies, resources and guidelines for all Scouting activities.
The Beaver Scout uniform consists of the Beaver Scout hat, vest, t-shirt, neckerchief and neckerchief slide. The Beaver Scout uniform is available at the Scout Shop nearest you, or at scoutshop.ca. The neckerchief and slide will be supplied by the Group.
Scouts builds leaders, enabling youth to lead their own path toward outdoor adventure and fun. Through Youth-led programming, youth discover the best in themselves taking on new challenges and experience new things they wouldn’t elsewhere. Along the way, they develop into well-rounded youth better prepared for success in the world.
As Scouts, the program leads us on our journey to become the best we can be. And with a focus on Youth-led planning and adventures, we are limited only by the boundaries of our imagination. It is a fun, hands-on learning experience where you can discover your potential in a safe, adventurous and inclusive way.
Scouting has taught my son so many skills and given him opportunities to try so many great adventures! I’d highly recommend the program to any parent who is looking for a value-packed, fun, challenging and diverse program where they can participate with their child.
My greatest Scouting memories are all coupled with first experiences. Sleeping in a tent for the first time, my first campfire, participating in two Canadian Jamborees; the first one allowing me to travel on a plane, alone, for the first time. All these experiences are things that I cherish and enjoy sharing because they are components of Scouting that have become amazing memories that will last a lifetime, but have also made me a confident and well-rounded person.
Community service is a key aspect of our programming. It not only helps the community, but teaches youth how to make contributions to society as youth and adults. Maintaining a bee farm, organizing food drives and crafting Christmas cards has made an impact on the very grateful residents that the youth help.
The most important skills I have learned through Scouts are the skills that have helped shape me as an individual. Scouts has taught me how to be a confident and patient person, how to talk to strangers and speak at public events. It challenged me to push myself to my limits. It gave me the courage to travel 1,400 km away from home to go to CJ’17 at the age of 10, and to fundraise all the money I needed for the journey. It also challenged me to hike 28 km in the Rideau Challenge as a first year Scout.
I thank Scouters for my experience. I owe them so much for helping me to grow as a person. Scouting makes you aware of others. Teaching about the environment and community, Scouting stops you from focusing on yourself as much, and you become more thankful and willing to give back and help. It’s good for kids to learn that—I know it was good for me.
Scouting is so amazing because it brings people from a variety of backgrounds and interests together to do the things they enjoy. It also makes me feel like I am where I belong. When I am anywhere else, I feel invisible and like nobody can see me, but when I’m at Scouting events or meetings I feel included and not invisible. I have made many fantastic friends in Scouting.
Scouting has given me many opportunities and skills that are helping me to prepare for a life of success, including skills in camping, public speaking, writing, confidence and many, many more. Most recently, the experiences I gained from Scouting helped me successfully achieve a position within the RCMP’s 2018-2019 National Youth Advisory Committee (NYAC). I would not be the girl I am now without my nine years in Scouting, and without my NYAC experience.
Now that I have been in Scouts for a few years, I have learned to always be prepared, and that has influenced my ability to be prepared in life, not just the outdoors. Scouts has taught me helpful things that I will continue to use in the future. It has made a huge and extremely positive impact on my life.
