As a part of our White Tail Council's North Start Quest Project they decided to collect food for those in need and to volunteer at a local food bank. For several weeks all of the Sections in our group contributed to collecting food donations for Harvest Manitoba.
Our White Tails (7-8 yr olds) then attended the Harvest Manitoba Warehouse, where they completed two consecutive volunteer shifts (2 hours each) which entailed the following:
- Sorting Food and Non-Food Products into specific designated bins
- QC - Quality Control, checking expiration dates
- Bulk Sorting - taking large items such as bags/boxes of rice and separating into smaller portions
We also had a tour of the facility and learnt about how things are processed and distributed to those in need. The youth also made cards of affirmation for kids who receive food throughout the week/weekend at their Schools, these cards are meant to put a smile on the kids faces when they receive the food packages.
In total, our group collected over 500lbs of food for Donation to Harvest Manitoba and spent 4 hours volunteering their time to help those in need.
