We spent the afternoon of our back to basics camp day learning what a Microplastic was, how it gets into our fish food supply and how we could minimize the amount of microplastics through products we choose. We then moved down to the shore of the lake and looked through the sand to find any evidence of microplastics and also had our scouters get some buckets of sand out of the lake to compare. We didn't find many but we did find lots of larger plastics on shore that we cleaned up while we were there as well. The activity was for beavers, cubs, scouts and ventures all linked together. They liked looking but beavers were very disappointed they didn't find many. The older youth and scouters discussed that this was a good thing. We also decided it was a fun way to spend an afternoon at the beach and clean up at our local scout camp!
