Scouts Canada offers a number of awards to acknowledge the inspiring work, leadership skills and community service projects that youth demonstrate daily.

These awards include:

  • Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service
  • Scouts of the World Program

Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service

The Medal of the Maple for Distinguished Youth Service is an award created by the members of the National Youth Committee, designed to honour those youth who have significantly contributed to the Movement and the spirit of Scouting through community service, extraordinary Scouting participation and a solid system of personal values.

The Medal of the Maple Award was launched in Scouts Canada’s Centennial year (Fall 2007), to symbolize the importance of youth involvement in our Movement’s success.

FAQ

The Medal of the Maple is an award for Youth Service to Scouting created by the members of the National Youth Network. It honours those youth who have contributed to the Movement and the spirit of Scouting through community service, extraordinary Scouting participation and a solid system of personal values.


Any member 18 years of age or less and/or who is registered as a participant. (Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts, Scouts, Venturer Scouts, Rover Scouts).

Any person may nominate a youth for the Medal of the Maple.

Applications are reviewed by a team appointed by the Council Youth Commissioner (or designate) in each council. Please contact motm@scouts.ca if you have question surrounding the adjudication process.

The recognition items are ordered by the council’s DCC/DCYC-Recognition through the normal channels for awards.

The Medal will be presented to the youth member at a time and place important and meaningful to the youth member. This could be a camp, banquet, or regular meeting.

Medal of the Maple recipients receive a certificate of recognition, a uniform flash and a medal to be worn around the neck.

The uniform flash is placed above the right-hand pocket to the far right of other award flashes. The red rope should be oriented to the right and the white rope should be oriented to the left.

Receipt of the Medal of the Maple is recoded under “Recognition” in the MyScouts system. This is the responsibility of each council’s DCC/DCYC Recognition.

Scouts of the World

The Scouts of the World program is a program created by the World Organization of the Scout Movement and is geared towards youth aged 14-26 (Venturer Scouts and Rover Scouts here in Canada). The purpose of the program is engage members of Scouts Canada in the fields of the Environment, Development and Peace, using the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations as a framework to generate positive change in our communities and internationally.
