Obstacle Course

As a Lair, construct an obstacle course for your Pack to race through. Use your imaginations! If it’s winter, you can create a course outside with snow tunnels and sliding hills. If you’re at a Scout Camp in the summer, perhaps there’s a mud pit you can include. Take turns running the course, and find out who’s the fastest Cub in your Pack!

Plan

  • What jobs need to be done to create the obstacle course?
  • What jobs need to be done to run the obstacle course?
  • What skills can each Cub offer? How will they be put to use?
  • Who will gather the materials you need?
  • When will the obstacle course be run? Where?
  • When will you set up the obstacle course and how long will that take?
  • How long will it take to run the obstacle course?
  • What rules will you have? Will it be a competition or a personal challenge?

Do

  • Build your obstacle course
  • Take turns racing the course
  • Cheer on the other Cubs

Review

  • What do you know now that you did not know before?
  • How did your Lair handle this Adventure as a team?
  • What was the physical challenge to this Adventure?
  • What was most challenging about building the course?
  • What’s next? A new obstacle course? An obstacle course for the Beaver Scouts?
  • Remember to submit your activities on our Scouts for Sustainability Take Action Map

Keep it Simple

  • Rather than making your own obstacle course, you can use a play structure or jungle gym. Remember to be safe – don’t run or close your eyes. You could have people go across the monkey bars, then duck under the jungle gym, climb over the slide and then bunny hop to the edge of the sandbox!
