- Where will you make your French toast? Where can you safely have a fire?
- Does anyone in your Section have any allergies? How can you make sure that they can still eat this treat?
- How much French toast will you need to feed everyone?
- Make a campfire – to cook your toast you will need lots of hot coals and very few flames.
- Take a large piece of aluminum foil and grease it with butter or cooking spray, then shape it into a boat.
- Take a sliced loaf of bread out of its bag and place it inside the boat – keep it standing up so that it keeps its shape. You can add another piece of foil underneath it for some extra support.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and salt. Pour this mixture over your bread, making sure to get it between all the slices.
- Wrap the loaf up in fire. Place it into the fire, directly on the coals but not in the flame. Rotate occasionally to ensure that it cooks evenly on all sides. Cook for about 40 minutes, until the egg mixture is cooked, and the bread is slightly toasted.
- Let it sit for 10 minutes before unwrapping and serving. Serve with fruit, syrup, powdered sugar, or anything else you can think of!

- If you can’t make this over a campfire, you can make it in the oven! Follow the same steps to prepare the bread and bake it in the oven at 375F for about 40 minutes.
