Gear Review: The Jetboil Flash 2.0

The Jetboil Flash 2.0 is an ultra-light fast cooking system for the outdoors. If you are new to camping or backpacking, the Jet boil Flash is simple enough to use. It also delivers high performance and great efficiency for avid hikers, canoers or outdoors people of any kind.

It can boil 2 cups (500 ml) of water in 100 seconds! That is crazy fast! This stove has a built-in electric lighter for quick, safe ignition.  There is a lid that has a hole to drink or pour out of, and holes to use as a strainer. On the bottom of the stove, you will find a measuring cup that doubles in size to form a small bowl. This stove comes with a fuel stabilizer to prevent it from falling over and make it safer .  Finally, the pot has an insulating cozy so that the content stays warm.

The Jetboil Flash 2.0 is an improved version of the Jetboil Flash.  It has a faster boil time, it’s 29 grams lighter and it’s more compact. This means that upgrading from the flash to the Flash 2.0 could be a worthy investment.

This cooking system weighs 371 g which is very light for a stove of its size and type. You can pack all the necessary components to use with the Jetboil inside the actual pot, which makes it very compact compared to other stove systems. With increased compactness this stove is easy enough to carry anywhere whether you are going hiking, camping, canoeing or to a festival.

The Jetboil Flash 2.0 is a very simple stove to use as mentioned previously. All you need to do is to remove the measuring cup from the bottom, attach the burner, screw on the fuel canister, put it on the fuel can stabilizer, turn on the gas safely, and immediately press the electric ignition button. And Tada! You may start cooking!

The stove can boil up 500 ml or 2 cups of water at a time. You can also purchase the pot stabilizer (sold separately) which allows you to use a larger pot or a frying pan.I If you consistently need a larger volume, you can buy a larger model.

Another thing to consider is that this stove is geared to efficiently bring contents to a boil. It doesn’t allow much for simmering. It is great for preparing soups, drinks, and dehydrated meals, but runs the risk of burning foods like pasta that need to cook on low heat.

The Jetboil Flash 2.0 can be a great match for anyone who loves the outdoors, from those with lots of experience to people who are  just getting into the world of camping.

Safety reminders:

  • Use in open areas, not inside due to risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
  • Do not let young children near when on, or hot.
  • Do not allow the fuel canister to heat up (e.g. In the sun).
  • Do not overfill the Jetboil pot.
  • The stove will get extremely hot so be careful and aware of your surroundings, because you could get seriously burned.

This stove worked very well for me. I recently took it to a Scout camp.  It kept my pack nice and light, it was very quick and simple to use, plus it is very compact and durable. I would recommend it! If you are interested, it is available at your local Scout Shop or online at
