Funny Campfire Skits, Cheers and Songs

Skits, cheers and songs can be pretty funny. They also help youth develop self-confidence, a sense of humour and a love for performing.

Here’s a selection of funny skits, cheers and songs you can find in the Scouts Canada Campfire Book—available from the Scout Shop, where all proceeds go back into Scouting.

Skit: The Pickpocket

Cast: Two pickpockets

Props: Watch, wallet, pair of undershorts

Each pickpocket claims to be the world’s best and challenges the other to prove it. They pass each other from opposite sides and proudly display items they have picked. This pass is repeated several times until one displays the other’s wallet while the other displays a pair of undershorts.

Skit: The Stiff Neck

Cast: Four or more

First wanders in alone, continuously looking up at the sky. Second enters, sees the first and looks up too. Third enters, sees the others looking up, does the same and asks, “What are you looking up at?”

Second answers, “I don’t know. I’m looking up because she’s looking up.”

Fourth enters, sees the others looking up and asks the first, “What’s everybody looking up at?”

First replies, “I don’t know about the other two, but I’ve got a stiff neck!”

Cheer: Ogy, Ogy, Ogy

(as loud as you can)

Leader: Ogy, Ogy, Ogy
Reply: Oy, Oy Oy (rhymes with boy)

Leader: Ogy
Reply: Oy

Leader: Ogy
Reply Oy

Leader: Ogy, Ogy, Ogy
Reply: Oy, Oy, Oy

Cheer: Grrr!

The leader begins at the left of the circle and moves around it from person to person building a “Grrr.” When everyone is growling, the leader raises both arms and the crowd yells: “Ate …Grr-ate!”

Song: I Like to Eat

I like to eat, eat, eat,
Apples and bananas,
I like to eat, eat, eat,
Apples and bananas

In each succeeding verse, substitute the vowels A-E-I-O-U for the primary vowel in each fruit of the song and the word ate, using the vowel sound.

A like to ate, ate, ate,
Applas and bananas,
A like to ate, ate, ate,
Applas and bananas.

E like to ete, ete, ete,
Epples and benenes,
E like to ete, ete, ete,
Epples and benenes.

I like to ite, ite, ite,
Ipplis and bininis,
I like to ite, ite, ite,
Ipplis and bininis.

O like to ote, ote, ote,
Opplos and bononos,
O like to ote, ote, ote,
Opplos and bononos.

U like to ute, ute, ute,
Upplus and bununus,
U like to ute, ute, ute,
Upplus and bununus.

Song: Wheels on the Bus

The wheels on the bus go round and round,
Round and round, round and round,
The wheels on the bus go round and round,
All over town.

The horn on the bus goes toot, toot, toot,
Toot, toot, toot, toot, toot, toot,
The horn on the bus goes, toot, toot, toot,
All over town.

The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish,
All over town.

Add different parts of the bus to expand the song.

The Scouts Canada Campfire Book has many more terrific skits, cheers and songs—as well as fun campfire openings and memorable closings.
