Council Commissioner — Voyageur Council

If you are interested, you are invited to submit your application for the volunteer position of: Council Commissioner —Voyageur Council.

The Council Commissioner is the leading volunteer for Scouting in Voyageur Council. Working closely with the other two members in the Council Key 3 (Council Youth Commissioner and Council Relationship Manager), the Council Commissioner is responsible for supporting and growing the Scouting movement in Voyageur Council, as well as being a vital member of the National Service Team and setting the direction for Scouting in Canada.  

The Council Key 3 works together in partnership to provide support to ensure safe, high-quality programs through Group health. Council Key 3’s build a team to support Groups; to improve Group health and effectiveness through key behaviors of the Five Priorities and the Group Heath Navigator. Members of the Council Key 3 (CK3) share their responsibilities and partner appropriately with each other to coordinate their strategy, actions, and communications with volunteers, employees, youth members, and other stakeholders. Each Council Key 3 is tasked with managing their team in accordance with the policies and strategic directions set out by the Board of Governors.

Appointed by and accountable to the National Key 3 of Scouts Canada, this position requires a time commitment of 40 - 50 hours per month. The appointment is for a one-year term, renewable for a maximum of three years. Travel throughout the Council to attend meetings and events will be required. 

With the completion of the term of the current Council Commissioner, Voyageur Council is seeking an individual with lots of energy, excellent time management skills and strong relationship skills to assume the role. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, problem solving, delegation and decision-making skills;
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, team effort and leadership in others
  • Effective interpersonal and excellent communication skills;
  • A strong Scouting background or equivalent volunteer experience;
  • Registered or ability to become an active member of Scouts Canada.
