Your upbeat, positive attitude will encourage participation in Scouting, Canada’s longest-serving youth leadership movement. With a keen eye for great leaders, you will recruit, appoint, and coach Group Commissioners and other volunteers for the Council Leadership/Management Team. Your role has a variety of tasks and is highly dynamic. Understanding member needs and motivating others to adapt to the changing organizational environment is a critical key to success. Being part of the Council Leadership team is a great opportunity to develop your own leadership skills and expand on your professional skill set and experiences.
Appointed by and accountable to the National Key 3 of Scouts Canada, this position requires a time commitment of 5-7 hours per week. The appointment is for a one-year term, renewable for a maximum of three years. Travel throughout the Council to attend meetings and events will be required.
The Council is managed by a “Key 3” partnership between the Council Youth Commissioner, the Council Relationship Manager (an employee of Scouts Canada) and the Commissioner. Together you will lead, plan and manage the affairs of the Council. You will be the principal contact for the Council regarding program management, membership growth and retention and providing a safe environment for youth to learn and develop. You ensure that activities of the Council are consistent with Scouts Canada’s strategic plan while providing the necessary service and support so that the Scout Groups can supervise the delivery of the Scouting program. As a member of the National Service Team, you represent the Council’s interests and ensure an adequate flow of accurate and timely information regarding all Scouting matters, including procedure and policy changes.
With the completion of the term of the current Council Commissioners, Tryton Harper and Norm Kerr, NLC is seeking individuals with lots of energy, excellent time management skills and strong relationship skills to assume the role. The successful candidates will be supported through a transition period to ensure success.
