Event Support Scouter

We are looking for enthusiastic Scouters to join our Event Support Network. As an Event Support Scouter, you will work on a regional basis with event planning teams to help support the development of both local and large events. 

Accountable To: The National Events Commissioner

Term:  Appointed annually by The National Events Commissioner. 

Time Required: 5-15 hours per month (on average) with various weekend requirements (number of hours and weekends is flexible based on personal availability.)

 

The Role

The Events Support Scouter role provides subject matter guidance and experience to help Event Management Teams deliver fun, safe and high-quality events that meet or exceed the expectations of the Event Standard.  Event Support Scouters may be assigned support roles for large, 'higher-risk' events like CJ, AJ or PJ (large jamborees) or more local 'lower-risk' events within a Council. By supporting event organizing teams as they progress through the event management process, they function as the liaison between Event Management Team and the Approval Team to ensure events meet the minimum threshold outlined in the Scouts Canada Events Standards.  

Event Support Scouters will:

Function as Subject Matter Experts for the Scouts Canada Events Standard including all associated:

  • Procedures
  • Tools
  • Sub-processes
  • Materials for guidance under the Business Process

Be an active member of the National Network of (Major & Local) Event Support Scouters.

  • Implement strategy set by the National Events Commissioner
  • Provide feedback and enhancement suggestions on various standards and procedures
  • Work in collaboration with other Event Support Scouters to progress event strategy
  • Actively recruit other Event Support Scouters

 

Activities 

Our Events Support Scouters will:

  • Support Event Management Teams (e.g. regional/national jamboree); the implementation of standards, procedures, processes
  • Function as Council Key 3 delegate for event approval where assigned.
  • Be a trusted advisor to both Event planners and Council Key 3
  • Implement strategy set by National Events Commissioner
  • Provide feedback and enhancement suggestions on various standards and procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with other Event Support Scouters to progress event strategy
  • Actively recruit other Event Support Scouters
  • Function as an Ambassador for Scouts Canada, the Program Support Team, and the National Service Team.
  • Be a dependable subject matter expert for event support and the event standards.
  • Participate in some planning meetings with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Support the organization of major & local events in both lead and background roles.
  • Other duties as required by the National Events Commissioner.

 

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be committed to Scouts Canada's program—The Canadian Path—including the Four Key Elements: Adventure, Plan-Do-Review, SPICES and Youth-led.
  • Have experience with event management or project management.
  • Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, decision-making skills.
  • Be well organized with a proven ability relating to planning/coordination.
  • Have a positive mindset with a willingness to adapt to changes.
  • Be a team player with a coachable personality.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
  • Model positive behaviours appropriate to Scouting.
  • Be an active member of Scouts Canada (or be eligible and willing to become active)
