Kitchen Assistant — Haliburton Scout Reserve

Reports To: Head Cook/Camp Director

Work Term: June 23 - August 28, 2024 

General Description:

The Kitchen Staff will work as a team to prepare nutritious meals for campers and staff. They will also maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen to camp standards. They will be responsible with assisting and coordinating food and meals for programs out trips.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Be an effective role model to campers and This includes but is not limited to:
    • Living the vision, mission and values of Scouts Canada
    • Respectful treatment of all campers/staff
    • Compliance with all rules/regulations
    • Appropriate communication and interactions prior to, during and after camp
    • Maintaining a clean & safe work/living environment and general behaviour throughout the employment period
    • Displaying enthusiasm for activities, personal cleanliness, dress, speech, manners, and positive relations with campers/staff.
  • Actively participate in the resolution of concerns that may arise within the team or with campers and implement appropriate process for the management of such.
  • Notify the Head Cook and Camp Director of any concerns as they
  • Be prepared and on time for all shifts assigned
  • Help to ensure that the kitchen meets health requirements in terms of cleanliness and operating procedures and adheres to all safety procedures in kitchen
  • Assist in preparation, coordination, and cleaning to ensure kitchen and dining hall runs
  • Assist in preparing nutritious meals and snacks throughout the summer
  • Supports the implementation of food practices relevant to the dietary restrictions and allergies of staff
  • Contributes to washing of dishes, cutlery, kitchen pots and pans, and maintenance of dish pits
  • Work independently and as team to complete tasks set
  • Lift up to 15kg (30 lbs) safely and stand for extended periods of
  • Notify the head cook of food and cleaning items
  • Assist in the orderly and secure storage of food
  • Support cooking/food preparation at the Saturday snack shack
  • Assist in conducting pre-camp and post-camp food and equipment
  • Assist with other duties outside of this description

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Standard First Aid and CPR Certification, Pleasure Craft Operator Card
  • Safe Food Handler or equivalent certification an asset
  • Meet all Scouts Canada screening and training requirements,
  • Experience in food service which includes prepping, cooking, cleaning and storage of
  • Enthusiastic and energetic.
  • Valid Criminal Record Check including vulnerable sector search or willing to obtain one (n/a to applicants under the age of 18).
  • Successful applicants will be required to complete the Scouts Canada Screening and Training requirements.

  • Proven leadership, teamwork, planning & administrative abilities.
  • Strong communication & customer service skills.
  • Experienced in working in a camp environment.
  • Food Handlers Certificate or equivalent certification an asset
  • Experience in food service which includes prepping, cooking, cleaning, and storage of.
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team
