Camp Opemikon Summer Programs 2025

Camp Opemikon, just southwest of Perth, ON, has been welcoming campers for over 80 years. Located on the shores of beautiful Christie Lake on the southern tip of the Canadian shield, Camp Opemikon offers a wide range of great on-site amenities for all levels of campers. This idyllic camp on more than 200 acres of rugged terrain, nestled among three pristine lakes, provides the perfect outdoor adventure in a peaceful nature surroundings.

For summer 2025, we are pleased to be bringing back our wide variety of great summer programming. Youth can choose from a multitude of camping options including, tents and cabins and great instructor-led programming, like archery, a low-ropes course, paddling excursions and guided trail hikes. Non-Scouting Members are welcome!

Camp Opemikon supports youth of all genders with summer adventures from Ottawa, Kingston, Cornwall, Brockville, Lanark County, Petawawa, Pembroke, and the rest of Eastern Ontario. Bus transportation to & from Ottawa provided.

Looking for an outdoor adventure experience this summer?

Your camper:

  • Will have a fun-filled summer experience that will provide them with skills to last a lifetime!
  • Will experience fun-filled, unique, new adventures to help them discover their confidence and to help them grow into capable, independent individuals who are better prepared for success in the world.
  • Will take the lead in selecting organizing, planning and managing their activities. 
  • Will develop outdoor and camping skills to meet some of the requirements of the Scouting Outdoor Adventure Skills Program.

Our Overnight Camps Details

Camp Opemikon will be open for amazing overnight camping experiences from Saturday, July 5 – Saturday, August 9th, 2025.

 

Beaver Camp - Ages 5 to 7 yrs

Offered from Week 1 - Week 5 – Sat. July 5 to Sat. August 9

This introductory camping program is for youth who have little or no camping experience either with their parents or as beaver Scouts. It consists of a 3-night or 4-night program which includes basic outdoor skills with hikes, aquatic games, and focuses on sharing. Beavers can go to camp Saturday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday.

Non-Scouts Canada Members: $550.00

Cubfield Camp

GOLD PACK – Ages 7 to 9 yrs

 

Offered from Week 1 - Week 4 – Wed. July 9 to Sat. August 2

Enjoy 3-nights or 4-nights at camp which include basic outdoor skills, hikes, games and campfires!

This introductory camping program is ideal for first-time campers to gain camping and outdoor skills development with little prior camping experience.  Cubs can go to camp Saturday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday.

RED PACK CAMP - AGES 7-8 YRS

Total Pack Camp is offered on:

These week-long camps will provide your youth with opportunities to lead and work together using a range of outdoor skills and activities such as swimming, archery, nature discovery, boating as it relates to the abilities of their pack level. Red Pack also gets to participate in Theme Day and Egg Drop! Red Pack goes on a lunch day trip to the Venture Cabin and a one night overnight trip to the Orchard.

Black Pack Camps will provide more advanced skills opportunities for the older, more experienced campers. Campers experience an overnight sleep-over at one of our satellite sites. Here are some examples of the Outdoor Adventure Skills youth may achieve: Camping, Trail, Aquatics and Paddling. Total Pack Camp combines Black Pack and Red Pack so that the older Cubs can help and lead the younger Cubs.

Total Pack is a combination of the Cubfield Packs that runs on the last week of camp. Their day trip will hike to one of the satellite sites depending on the group and the overnight trip is to the Venture Cabin.

Brownsea troop Camp - Ages 11-12 yrs

Week 3 – Sat. July 19 to Sat. July 26

Week 4 – Sat. July 26 to Sat. Aug. 2

Week 5 - Sat. August 2 to Sat. August 9

During these week-long camps, youth are provided with the building blocks to enjoy camping and develop outdoor skills through hands-on activities such as canoeing, hiking and high ropes. Rope courses, a regatta and special all-camp evening activities will fill this fun-packed week. Youth will also have the chance to experience a 2-night canoe trip on Christie Lake and Farren’s Lake to develop land and water adventure skills. Here are some examples of the Outdoor Adventure Skills youth may achieve: paddling, aquatics, trail, camping and vertical.

Troop Camp - Ages 12 to 14 yrs

Troop TRAIL skills camp offered on:

Week 1 – Sat. July 5 to Sat. July 12

Week 3 – Sat. July 19 to Sat. July 26

Week 5 - Sat. August 2 to Sat. August 9

During these week-long camps, youth will apply all the development of the Troop program with a focus on hiking skills. Other camp-based activities will be included during the week such as swimming, canoeing, ropes & teambuilding. Youth will also have the chance to experience a 2-night hiking trip at a nearby park. Here are some examples of the Outdoor Adventure Skills youth may achieve: Trail, Camping and Paddling.

Troop PADDLING skills camp offered on:

Paddling 1 - Ages: 12-14 yrs

Week 1 – Sat. July 5 to Sat. July 12

Week 5 – Sat. August 2 to Sat. August 9

During this week-long camp, youth will apply all the development of the Troop program with a focus on paddling and water skills. Other camp-based activities will be included during the week such as knots and lashing, ropes & teambuilding. Youth will also have the chance to experience a 2-night canoe trip at a nearby park or canoeing up the Rideau Canal. Here are some examples of the Outdoor Adventure Skills youth may achieve: Camping and Paddling.
 

Paddling 2 – Ages 12-14 yrs

One Week Program: Week 2

Paddling 2 builds on paddling skills that campers already have and increase distances and skills. They go on a 2-night outtrip to North Frontenac Parklands. The route will depend on site availability.
 

Paddling 3 – Extreme Adventure - Ages 13 – 15 yrs

Two Week Program: Weeks 3 - 4

Paddling 3 is a new program this year. The first week of camp will focus on strengthening paddling and portaging skills. They will go on a paddling day trip. The second week will be a round trip 5-night paddling trip on the Rideau system. The trip starts at Westport and make its way through Newboro Lake to Jones Falls. Paddling 3 will stay at camp sites and lock stations.

Survival Camp - Ages 13 to 15 yrs

Offered on:

Week 2 – Sat. July 12 to Sat. July 19

Week 4 – Sat. July 26 to Sat. August 2

During this week-long camp, camp applies all the development of the Troop Program with a focus on Survival Skills.  They will spend majority of their time staying at our satellite site at Farren’s Lake. Campers will get the chance to create and sleep in their own shelter.

Climbing Camp - Ages 12 to 14 yrs

Week 5 – Sat. August 2 to Sat. August 9  

During this week-long camp, youth will spend the first part of the week climbing McManus Rock to fine-tune their climbing skills. They will also have the chance to head off-site to Kingston Mills for a 2-night climbing experience. No previous rock-climbing experience is required!

Outdoor skills and leadership (OSL) - Ages 14 to 15 yrs

Offered on:

Week 1 & 2 – Sat. July 5 to Sat. July 19

Week 3 & 4 – Sat. July 19 to Sat. August 2

The OSL camp is a challenging 2-week leadership development program that concentrates on refining outdoor skills. Week 1 is devoted to land-based skills such as backpacking and light-weight camping and includes a 3-night hiking trip. Week 2 shifts to water-based skills such as portaging and canoe safety and includes a 3-night canoe trip. The 2 weeks are tied together with an overnight survival night challenge. Here are some examples of the Outdoor Adventure Skills youth may achieve: Paddling, Trail, Camping, Emergency.

Counselor-in-training (CIT) - Ages 15 to 16 yrs

Offered on:

Week 1 & 2 – Sat. July 5 to Sat. July 19

Week 2 & 3 – Sat. July 12 to Sat. July 26 

Week 4 & 5 – Sat. July 26 to Sat. August 9

The CIT 2-week program provides training to youth interested in obtaining Camp Counselor positions in future years or in enhancing leadership skills. Activities concentrate on development of team building skills, proper methods of discipline, conflict resolution, personal goal setting and intensive leadership training. Week one involves placement in appropriate program or service area to apply new-found knowledge. CIT builds confidence, prepares youth for an amazing experience as a camp counselor or in their future workforce.

QUALS CAMP – AGES 13 to 16 yrs

Quals Camp is a new program running this year with the intention of offering water-based Lifesaving certifications during a fun willed week of summer camp. The focus will be on practicing and completing courses from the Life Saving Society. Campers will join the rest of camp later in the day for activities such as boating, archery, swimming, low and high ropes during electives, and Campfire and other evening activities. Campers will sleep in Clements Lodge which has rooms for campers with bunk beds. Camp cannot guarantee a camper will pass any of the courses offered.

Bronze Medallion - Week 1, 3

Bronze Med is the first in the Lifesaving courses that introduces candidates to water safety and rescues. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water. Emergency First Aid will also be taught with Bronze Med. Prerequisite: be at least 13 years of age

Bronze Cross - Week 2, 4

Bronze Cross builds on the skills learned in Bronze Med and starts to apply them and problem-solving skills to active surveillance of aquatic situations. Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion (doesn’t need to be current)
