Appointed by and accountable to the National Key 3 of Scouts Canada, this position requires a time commitment of 40 - 50 hours (about 6 days) per month. The appointment is for a one-year term, renewable for a maximum of three years. Travel throughout the Council to attend meetings and events will be required.
The Council is managed by a “Key 3” which is a partnership of the Council Youth Commissioner (up to age 26), Council Commissioner and Council Relationship Manager (an employee of Scouts Canada). Together you will lead, plan and manage the affairs of the Council. You will be the principal contact for the Council regarding program management, membership growth and retention and providing a safe environment for youth to learn and develop. You ensure that activities of the Council are consistent with Scouts Canada’s strategic plan while providing the necessary service and support so that the Scout Groups can supervise the delivery of the Scouting program. As a member of the National Service Team, you represent the Council’s interests and ensure an effective flow of accurate and timely information regarding all Scouting matters, including procedure and policy changes.
Your upbeat, positive attitude will encourage a climate favorable for growth of Canada’s best youth movement. With a keen eye for great leaders, you will participate with the Council Nominating Committee in the Public Appointment Process to selectively recruit, appoint and orient Group Commissioners and other volunteers for the Council Leadership/Management Team. The job has a variety of tasks and is dynamic and changing. The ability to understand, quickly react and motivate others to adapt to the changing organizational environment is a critical key to success.
Northern Ontario Council is seeking an individual with lots of energy, excellent time management skills and strong relationship skills to assume the role.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated leadership, management, problem-solving, delegation and decision-making skills;
- Proven ability to inspire confidence, team effort and leadership in others
- Effective interpersonal and excellent communication skills;
- A strong Scouting background or equivalent volunteer experience;
- Registered or ability to become an active member of Scouts Canada.
