Sustainable Development Goals, Awareness Activities

Supplies needed:

  • Copies of the Goals that can be stepped on without being damaged (taped onto foam tiles, laminated, etc.)
  • Copies of the prompts provided, cut up and put into a hat or basket (feel free to add your own!).

What to Do:

  1. Use the Goals to create a circle with enough space between each Goal for people to comfortably stand on them (if you have more than 17 people playing, you can use multiples of some Goals).
  2. Ensure that you have one fewer Goal in the circle as there are people playing. Make sure you know what Goal you’re on!
  3. Have one person stand in the middle and read out a prompt.
  4. Anyone who the prompt applies to must step off of their Goal and move to another one. For an added challenge, you cannot step off of your Goal and move to the one beside you.
  5. The person in the middle also tries to claim a tile.

Whoever is left without a tile is now in the middle and the game continues.

Supplies Needed:

  • Name tags (templates available here)
  • Sharpies

What to Do:

  1. Choose a nametag.
  2. Using a sharpie, answer the prompt on your name tag, either with a Goal, or project.
  3. With the people around or next to you, discuss your decision and decision-making process.
  4. Wear your name tag for the rest of the day to keep the conversation going!

Supplies Needed:

  • Jenga blocks with questions on them

What to Do:

  1. Build your block tower by stacking 3-by-3 blocks – alternating directions when stacking.
  2. After the tower is built, take turns removing one block at a time without knocking it over. You can only touch one block at a time and when you touch the block, you have to stick to removing that block during your turn.
  1. Once the block is safely removed, read the question on the block aloud and answer the question on the block for the Group.
  2. If the tower falls over, the game is over. Re-build the tower to play again and keep the conversation going!

Supplies Needed:

  • Dice (with SDG icons on them)
  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Timer

What to Do:

  1. Take three dice (either three English dice or three French dice) and roll them.
  2. Take note of the Goals which have been rolled, and set a timer for 45 seconds.
  3. In those 45 seconds, everyone writes down as many ideas/projects they can think of which connect to at least two of the Goals which have been rolled.
  4. At the end of the 45 seconds, have everyone take turns reading out the projects they listed.
  5. Whoever has the most projects written down wins the round.
  6. Keep playing for 3-5 rounds, re-rolling the dice for each round.

Supplies Needed:

  • 5 second timer
  • Sheet of a 17 Sustainable Development Goals for reference
  • Create a list of various activities

What to Do:

  1. Taking turns using a 5-second timer, each participant must think of actions or activities that match a specific Goal on the SDG list.
  2. Each participant can take a turn to try and answer the prompt in 5 seconds.
  3. Whoever names the most activities for a Goal(s) wins!
  4. Hint: an activity may have multiple goals that it connects to!

Supplies Needed:

  • Random printed photos
  • Random printed memes
  • Pen/pencil
  • Paper

What to Do:

  1. In a small gathering, have one person select a photo or meme from the pile.
  2. Each person writes their own caption or title for the selected photo. This might be a funny, inspirational, serious, or silly
  3. Fold your paper and put it in a pile in the middle.
  4. The person who picked the photo or meme must then read the captions aloud and decide who wrote which caption.
  5. A point is rewarded to how many guesses were correct!
  6. Continue by having the next person around the circle choose the photo or meme.
