Cub Scouts (Age 8–10)

Who are Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts are youth ages 8-10 who are curious about exploring the world around them. Cub Scouts do a little bit of everything from camping and hiking to community projects and environmental stewardship programs. Through planned adventures Cub Scouts not only grow their skill level but also have the opportunity to personally develop in areas such as social, intellectual and leadership qualities. It’s all about having fun, meeting new friends and developing self-confidence.

A Cub Scout Section is called a “Pack” and youth within a Pack are organized into smaller teams called “Lairs”. Being a Cub Scout means you are part of the planning process, deciding the types of adventures and activities you and your fellow Cub Scouts want to explore. The motto for Cub Scouts is: Do Your Best and Cub Scouts are encouraged to try new and exciting activities, including STEM projects and cultural experiences.

WHAT DO CUB SCOUTS DO?

Learning by doing is the Scouting Method and Cub Scouts love to try new things and explore the world around them. Cub Scouts plan adventures like hikes, weekend camps and water activities (like canoeing and kayaking), discovering their unique capabilities and personal progression along the way. In Cub Scout youth can sleep beneath the stars, hike with gear on their backs, eat gooey marshmallows on a stick or spot an otter splashing in a stream just a few feet away.

Being part of a community and lending a helping hand is also an important part of being a Cub Scout. Whether it’s a shore clean-up, assisting at a senior’s home or helping a fellow Cub Scout with learning a new knot, it’s all about helping others and always striving to do your best.

WHAT TYPES OF ADVENTURES DO CUB SCOUTS DO?

  • Weekend Camps
  • Canoeing and Kayaking
  • Campfire Cooking
  • STEM Projects
  • Snowshoeing
  • Constructing Kub Kars
  • Civic projects like shore clean-ups and recycling projects
