Cub Scouts are youth ages 8-10 who are curious about exploring the world around them. Cub Scouts do a little bit of everything from camping and hiking to community projects and environmental stewardship programs. Through planned adventures Cub Scouts not only grow their skill level but also have the opportunity to personally develop in areas such as social, intellectual and leadership qualities. It’s all about having fun, meeting new friends and developing self-confidence.
A Cub Scout Section is called a “Pack” and youth within a Pack are organized into smaller teams called “Lairs”. Being a Cub Scout means you are part of the planning process, deciding the types of adventures and activities you and your fellow Cub Scouts want to explore. The motto for Cub Scouts is: Do Your Best and Cub Scouts are encouraged to try new and exciting activities, including STEM projects and cultural experiences.
Learning by doing is the Scouting Method and Cub Scouts love to try new things and explore the world around them. Cub Scouts plan adventures like hikes, weekend camps and water activities (like canoeing and kayaking), discovering their unique capabilities and personal progression along the way. In Cub Scout youth can sleep beneath the stars, hike with gear on their backs, eat gooey marshmallows on a stick or spot an otter splashing in a stream just a few feet away.
Being part of a community and lending a helping hand is also an important part of being a Cub Scout. Whether it’s a shore clean-up, assisting at a senior’s home or helping a fellow Cub Scout with learning a new knot, it’s all about helping others and always striving to do your best.
Scouts builds leaders, enabling youth to lead their own path toward outdoor adventure and fun. Through Youth-led programming, youth discover the best in themselves taking on new challenges and experience new things they wouldn’t elsewhere. Along the way, they develop into well-rounded youth better prepared for success in the world.
Learning by doing is at the heart of the Scouting program. The Cub Scout program covers a number of areas including environment & outdoors, creative express, leadership, active & healthy living, citizenship, belief & values and outdoor adventure skills. Cub Scouts will plan all kinds of fun adventures that cover these main areas. As part of the overall Scouting program, there are also additional program elements that Cub Scouts may explore during their time with the Pack, some of them are listed below.
Throughout their time with Cub Scouts, youth will be working towards a number of different badges, whether it’s collectively with their Pack or individually on their own. Below are all of the badges’ Cub Scouts can explore and earn.
The Cub Scout uniform is the place to show all of the amazing badges that have been earned! The Cub Scout uniform consists of the Cub Scout hat, shirt, neckerchief and neckerchief slide. The Cub Scout uniform is available at scoutshop.ca. The neckerchief and slide will be supplied by the Group.
