Developing Well-Rounded Young Leaders, Better Prepared For Success in the World
“Putting a challenge in front of the youth that they have to overcome to develop leadership skills is a good method for learning.”
Scouts Canada’s all-new Youth Leadership Training courses have been created for all five Sections, from Beaver Scouts to Rover Scouts! In fact, the program was spearheaded by a team of youth from across Canada.
After our successful pilots in the spring of 2018, we’ve incorporated your feedback to build an even stronger program with a soft launch for October 2018—offering Youth Leadership Training for all Sections from Beavers to Rovers, with additional materials to follow as we lead up to our full launch in 2019.
The new Youth Leadership Training courses follow the practices, principles and resources of The Canadian Path including Trail Cards, which give the program flexibility and help youth to Plan, Do and Review adventures they choose as a team. Youth Leadership Training represents the exciting evolution of FAST, FLEX and FOCUS, and an opportunity for Scouts Canada to better fulfill its Mission of developing well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world.
Each group of youth participants can create a unique collection of adventures to explore five leadership knowledge areas, including Becoming a Leader, Communication, Plan-Do-Review, Problem Solving and Teamwork. Youth from older Sections facilitate the adventures—while adult Scouters take a step back from the action.
