YLT-Silent Challenge

In a group, brainstorm some challenges that you would like to give to other teams. This could be something like lining up by age without speaking, or lining up by order of height. Take on some challenges created by other groups. Good luck

Plan

  • What materials do you need for this adventure? Where will you get them?
  • How much time will you take to write challenges? How many challenges will each team put in the hat?
  • How will you communicate without talking? What other kinds of communication will be allowed, and which will be against the rules of the game?

Do

  • Write challenges for the other group to do without speaking. Some challenges might include lining up in order of height or shoe size, from youngest to oldest, or by eye colour.
  • Put all of the challenges in a hat. Each team should pull out a challenge and try to complete it.
  • When you think you have completed the challenge, ask a facilitator to check your work. Were you successful?
  • For an added challenge, do this as a whole group, rather than in small teams.

Review

  • What do you know now that you did not know before?
  • How did you feel before, during and after this adventure?
  • How did you communicate without speaking?
  • When were you really confused, and how did you clear up the misunderstanding?
  • If you were to try this again, how would you do things differently next time?

Keep it Simple

Start with a simple challenge, like lining up by the first letter of your first name.

Take it Further

Race to beat the clock! Break into teams and see which team can line up in the correct order the fastest.
